Short story is I inheirited swmbos Ipod touch when she had my brothers as he got a new one.

Her's is now running version 3 of the software but the one I have is stuck on version 2 and when checking for updates it says it is running the current version. I want to update it to version 3 so how do I do it.

Getting fed up as I can't install any Apps as they need version 3 to work......HELP

Shameless bump. There must be a way of getting it onto iPhone 3.0 or higher software.

What generation iPod is it? I am assuming it is a first generation iPod touch as the second and third gen gets iOS 4.x for free.

I have a first gen iPod touch and it's stuck on 3.1.3.which is probably the last version Apple will ever put out. I had to pay to upgrade to iOS 3.1 a few years back in order to access the app store etc.

Yes, it's cheeky having to pay for an iOS upgrade seeing as they are now free but that's Apple for you.

It's a first gen that was stuck on iOS 2. I found that link on the Apple forums to force the upgrade to iOS 3. It's a paid upgrade, though it was cheap at least. That's as high as a first gen will go, 2nd gen and above will take iOS 4
