Fabia VRS 1 Oil Top Up

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Sorry to post another oil question as I know it's been done to death but I can't find the answer anywhere on the forum or web, definitively. I believe my Fabia VRS mk1 has been serviced using Quantum PD Long Life oil (because it says this on the garage's service slip).

I believe this not to be necessary so can I top it up with standard PD oil from the list of oils on the pinned post at the top of the forum? Or should I stick with the same oil? I'm doing a long journey on Thursday so want to make sure oil level is correct.

I have seen a great post by Oilman on the maintenance forum which does state it doesn't matter what oil you top up with (to a certain extent) but I want to get it right. I can get the Fuchs stuff from GSF nearby so should I go for this?

Oil is half way between markers at the moment.

Many thanks,

Sam

As you say to a certain extent it doesn't matter which oil you top up with; the fact that your planning on using PD compatible oil can only be beneficial.

However more importantly why bother? If its in the hatched area, its within tolerance, so leave it alone.

Agreed, as long as the oil is 505.01 PD spec then a top-up will not affect oil performance.

VW Platinum tends to be quite a bit cheaper than say, Castrol, though. Less than £6 per litre against nearer £13.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I can use compatible oil which is good.

Always thought the quantum pd oil was really good stuff but would appear there is better stuff out there. One of the services from a couple of years ago states that the oil was £49.99! Not sure what that was. Liquid gold?
