Carpet quality

Featured Replies

The only thing so far that I am disappointed with with the Superb is the quality of the carpet, it is now more like a black version of the carpet in the boot, which is just like a heavy duty felt rather than actual carpet, this is the first time I have seen the actual floor 'carpet' made from this stuff and TBH it is a real let down to an otherwise great car, so when did Skoda / VAG actually change the carpets in their cars?

FWIW my car is a MY11 (BW43) Superb Elegance.

I agree, I think the carpet looks and feels cheap and It does indeed look like it should be for use in the boot of a cheap hatchback.

I also worry that it won't last or "age" very well, not that I can do much about it.

I was looking and driving MY10 models that arrived in September. I was disappointed with quality and look of carpet in boot. It looked cheap like it was taken from cheap Chinese models. I didn't noticed that quality of interior carpets was bad, mostly I was looking beige interior. But at the end I have ordered beige interior with black carpets.

So you are telling that they have changed quality of carpets in interior, so it is now the same like it was in boot in MY10? I am disgusted with boot quality, and it was bothering me to have something like that in car which is advertised for boot space. I am not sure how that looks in whole interior, but I am afraid that I won't be able to live with it. I hope that I didn't understand you correctly...

My previous Octavia MK2 had exactly the same carpet in it as my current MK2 Superb. The Octavia was 6 years old, so Skoda have been using it a while. Perhaps VAG stopped them fitting a better quality carpet so as to differentiate it between VW and Audi

The boot carpet and interior carpet on my 2008 Superb are the same.

That could be it, the cost savings had to be somewhere I suppose?

We get rubbish looking carpet and no dipping rear view mirror  , but the rest of the car is sure good

Cheers Manny for the clarification, I don't feel quite so short changed now.

I was comparing it to the 'normal' carpet from my 2004 MKI Superb, I also never noticed the carpets in the demonstrators that I saw and drove, or when I collected the car so it wasn't obviously noticeable, more of a shock though when I did notice though.

Was not impressed with carpets on the newer models, they did not seem as good as my first Superb a Mk I, so did not order as such just accepted the basic floor covering and then obtained carpets from the firm below.

The quality is very good and price was equal to OEM when I ordered. They are a perfect fit, I had my initials and Reg added, an extremely good extra drivers heel pad, another full thickness of carpet should last a considerable time.

I agree the carpet quality is not as good as my Mk1 Superb, but then I have the Skoda fitted Rubber mats just the thing for small kiddies with dirty boots.- so who cares! :giggle:

Looking at the mess of my carpets right now i reckon that the cheap synthetic looking carpets fitted these days might just recover better than the better stuff from days gone by. Yes it is definitly a cost cutting exercise but it has to be done to make some of the other VAG marques "feel" superior. I wonder what the topics on the forum would read like if the list prices started to increase simply due to the introduction of superior carpets!!

I for one do not like the carpets that are fitted and I agree that the same quality is fitted to the Octavia. On the plus side I think that they seem to be quite hard wearing.

yes m8 i agree carpet is **** but i have heavy duty rubber mats fitted as my superb is a taxi as i need them in this weather

The boot carpet in my MY11 is the same as what i had in my MY08 Octavia but it differs slightly to what is in the cabin.

I don't see any problem with the carpet in the cabin, it's all covered with nice floor mats and I for one don't usually look at the carpet on the floor of a car.

I must say thank you to everyone, I'm waiting for my superb to turn up. I'm delighted that the biggest problem most of you can find wrong with your cars are the quality of the carpets. I look forward to joining this thread once I have mine ;)

The BMW forum I'm on has lot of threads of failed traction units amongst other things
