gona go for fixed rather then coilovers.... any recomendations? best for comfort with about a 35mm drop is what im after, which are best?

I have the Koni STR.T on my PD100 , droped approx 40mm on mine , so will be approx 25 to 30 on the vRS

I have had them on for over 100k miles , and have been superb ;)

until you pull up next to a car on coilovers and it starts to bug you that your car isn't quite low enough... maybe just another 5mm...

I'd go for coilovers purely for the versatility. decent quality coils will be comfortable, especially if you don't go mega low on them, then you have the option at least, with a fixed drop, your stuck with that ride height whether you wish your rear end was 5mm lower or not.

i'm going to go for the Eibachs

i think with coilovers and going too low you start and have other problems with speed bumps etc

plus with eibachs it gives that OEM+ look more than what coils do.

But you can drop 35mm on coil overs.

true but why go for the 35mm drop on coilovers when you can get the same drop on eibachs and pay 100's less

Because it`ll handle better? I`v been in a car with shocks and springs, wasnt any more comfortable than my car on coilovers, just very bouncy. A nice sensible drop on coilovers will look and feel better. And a set of decent mid range coilovers arnt much more than shocks and springs at all.

I had a H&R Cup Kit on one of my mk2 Golfs, gave a reasonable drop and nice ride, not tried them on a Fabia though but I think it gives a 30mm drop.

Coilovers every day of the week.

Mine are all the way down on the back with the cups still in and still isnt "slammed" and the fronts have 10 turns left on them and i still manage fine with speed bumps.

In the winter you can raise it up to suit the weather, then drop it back down in the summer, and change it how ever you like.

Your car though....

eibachs will set you back 150 quid and are as comfortable ass stock suspension and will give you a nice little drop.

the cheapest coilovers that i've seen are a tenner short of 400 quid, plus the lower you go the stiffer its going to be surely?

i've been in one with eibachs and it felt nice, i wouldn't mind going in one with coilovers just to see what the quality is like compared to the eibachs.

For £400 you could get AP coiliovers with better matched springs and dampers, with the option to go lower (or even higher :o ) should you wish at a later date. When I got my coilovers it was a toss up between AP's and the STR.T kit, in the end I went for the AP's for the reasons above, and i'm glad I did, there would have been no way I was goin to get low enough to keep me happy with a 40mm drop on the rear.

Why? Damping doesnt change and the spring remains the same, the ride height drops thats all.

Well i've just opted for the H&R springs for the furby, 30mm drop.

I had H&R coilovers on my Clio 172 cup and they were too harsh for the roads around my area, but sayin that they were excellent on a smooth road but if you hit a bump it unsettled the car just that little bit too much.........got a really nasty tank slapper once lol :)

With coilovers your not changing or pre-loading the spring any more, the spring position changes, but not its rate or pre-loading.

For springs on standard dampers the spring rate is upped as opposed to changes to the damping to control compressions, this results in a bit of a 'stiff' feel and can get bouncy when traveling fast. Coliovers still have stiffer than standard springs, but the uprated dampers help control the ride more eficiently than the standard units do.

I find my coilovers more comfortable than the springs on standard dampers I had previously, even though I'm fairly 'low'.

That would depend on the coil overs fitted.

But a matched set of springs and dampers will be better than standard dampers working on shorter springs anyhow.

Weitec AP and KW all make coil over kits designed for the road, some of them using regular progressive springs so the ride is the same as a regular damper set up.

oh OK that kind of makes sense.

so what are coilovers like over bumps and pot-holes?

i could do with a little test drive in one with coilovers tbh.

i didn't mean to sound argumentative above I'm just a little confused as I've never done anything like this before.

Like I said it depends greatly on what you buy, some are better than others.

Harsher than standard, but better than springs on standard dampers, I can't speak for the koni kits or similar. Small high frequency bumps tend to vibrate the car a bit, but, larger hits aren't too different from standard really.
