Yeti S Radio CD

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum, and I was wondering if any of you Yeti owners out there could give me some advice?

I've just ordered my first snow monster, and first ever Skoda. I've always driven Seats, so this is my first foray into the Skoda wing of VAG. I love the car, and I've probably gone beyond my initial budget to get one - a 1.2 Yeti S in Aqua Blue metallic. I put the order form in on the 23rd of December, and I've to go into the dealership on Thursday to sign the paperwork. I went for the S trim as it was the most within my price range. I didn't want to go for the E, as I wanted the Alloys and Fog lamps, and generally I'm really happy with the level of equipment on the S. My current car is a Seat Leon sport, and it has bluetooth and an MP3 CD with 3.5mill Jack for my ipod. The dealer informed me that the Yeti S doesn't have the Aux in for my ipod, and it wasn't a factory option. Nor was bluetooth. I'm slightly disappointed by this, but didn't feel it was worth the extra £1500 for the SE just to get the Bolero stereo, and then have to pay the extra for the factory fitted bluetooth, and anyway, it was way outside my budget.

I thought I would do a bit of research and see if it was possible to break into the back of the Stream unit that the brochure says my car will have to fit a hooky aux cable for my ipod? I can't even find a picture of the radio online, and the brochure is less than helpful in so many ways. I went onto the SkodaCZ website to look for the manual for the radio, and the stream unit wasn't listed, only Swing, Blues and Bolero. Does anyone know what unit is in the S trim car? Does it play MP3s? And is there any way for me to listen to my ipod on it? Or would it be easier for me to get them to amend my order and have the bolero fitted as a factory option when I go to get the paperwork done? even if I do this, they tell me they can't fit a 3.5mill jack as the S doesn't have a jumbo box???

I'd really like to be able to use my ipod, as my entire music collection is on it, and you know what it's like when you get used to having something, it's nearly impossible to live without it! I'd appreciate any helpor advice you guys have got to give.

Cheers guys, and I can see from the posts here that I'll get some great advice. Keep up the good work!

Hi and welcome,

the radio in the 'S' is actually a 'Swing' as fitted to the Fabia II FL and must have some aux connection; our Fabia has an aux jack point by the handbrake.

Documentation can be found on the main Skoda Auto site under the service tab My link

Hope that's of help,

TP

I have the S 1.2 Yeti with the Swing. No auxilliary jack anywhere I can find or see; but it does play MP3 CDs. I would order the radio upgrade without question if the ipod really matters to you.

Strange, the brochure does still say that the Stream is fitted to the 'S'.

I'm confident TP is correct though as Skoda UK have a very iffy reputation for brochure/website accuracy.

Using TP's link and flicking through the Swing manual it does reference this:

External sources*

Input AUX-IN

– The input for external audio sources AUX-IN is located under the armrest of the front seats.

– Activate the AUX-IN input by pressing the button and by subsequently pressing the function key.

– External audio sources, which are connected to the AUX-IN input, cannot be operated via the radio.

I'd be ever so slightly annoyed to discover my Yeti S didn't have the AUX input.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. This clears up a lot. The swing radio seems to have an aux input as standard, but in the Yeti S, it isn't connected to anything. In the SE, the Aux connector is found inside the jumbo box armrest, but as the S model doesn't have a jumbo box, the Aux connector doesn't seem to exist. And I was told that it wasn't available as a factory option. It's not even a factory option if I was to decide to upgrade to the Bolero, as presumably there is nowhere for the jack connector to go, so I would still be in the same predicament of having to try to break into the back of the head unit if I paid £270 to have a Bolero fitted. Speaking of which, does anyone have any clue as to how I would go about getting in to the back of the stereo so I can fit my minijack cable?

It seems nuts to me when the Swing unit can clearly be connected to 3.5millimeter jack and can be used as a bluetooth telephone reciever when fitted to other cars in the Skoda range, that these are not available as factory fitted options on the E and S models. I would quite happily have paid an extra £500 to upgrade my S model with these if they were available as options rather than pay the extra money to get the SE, just so that the options were available to me for a further cost. So I see it that they have done themselves out of extra cash by being so inflexible on options.

Cheers,

I'm sure you could arrange an auxilliary plug for your ipod. However, from previous cars I have both a Griffin itrip and a Belkin tune base whcih transmit on FM and keep the ipod/iphone charged.

An earlier post mentioned MP3 CDs and in my previous car, I did do this as you can get a surprising amount of MP3 tracks on a CD.

Irrespective, I'm sure you're going to enjoy your Yeti. I certainly do. I'm almost looking forward to going back to work this morning!

Hi,

Great Yeti has published a number of posts on accessing the dash and radio in the Tech Guide

If you upgrade to Baleno it has an SD slot, so there is always the option of transferring your music to an SD card and uploading it - Baleno also appears to have bluetooth operated via the stereo (rather than the steering wheel) as standard too. If your music isn't on a computer somewhere, there is software you can get that copies music from your iPod to a hard-drive which will allow you to copy onto an SD card.

I've been doing the S v SE comparrison loads and one thing worth noting is that S models don't come with rear-speakers (nope, I haven't seen anything so willfully cheap since the Corsa Merit either...) - if sounds matter, then turn the rear speakers off in your Leon and see how 'lovely' it is...I don't know if the wiring is in there and it simply requires speakers to be fitted or whether it's a huge job but personally it's one reason why I'm coming down on spending more on an SE, especially once you add the essential (to me!) leather steering wheel and cruise control... The functionality of the Baleno stereo is the icing on the cake.

The Bluetooth on the Bolero will ONLY work IF you specify the Bluetooth preparation, as others on the forum have discovered, otherwise it will remain 'greyed' out.

Ahh, I thought for a minute there you might be able to use the bluetooth on the Bolero through the stereo, without the optional wheel. I gather that even if you upgrade the Swing stereo to the bolero that Bluetooth preparation is not available. That makes me think twice about paying the extra for the Bolero, when I could probably take the swing out and fit an aux jack, saving myself the £270. All I can say is you guys are far more knowlegeable regarding all this than the salesmen at the two dealerships nearby. They appear to know little or nothing about these various options. I gather they don't sell many S model cars, so they don't need to know the ins and outs of the various cars down the range!

Anyway, thanks kindly for your suggestions and advice. I still think that Skoda need to take a trick to themselves regarding the level of detail in their brochures and on the website!

Cheers.

Too true - this is a running theme in many threads. It's almost as though you take pot luck in what you get against what you think you can order or actually have ordered!

Interesting - useful information. As I'm sure many owners have discovered, the pricing structure almost forces you into an Elegance if you need a few options! It's a shame you can't get Alcantara as a no-cost option on the Elegance...

I have an Active/S - but mine has the "Blues" radio. It is too supposed to have an AUX-in, but seemingly only in conjunction w/center armrest.

Of course, I haven't got the armrest :D

Related query: Anyone know if the wiring loom is in place for the rear-speakers, even when there aren't any?

Mine is the Swiss market equivalent of the "S" line (Haldex 1.8 tsi). I got the Swing radio (only upgrade available here on the "S") with rear speakers and an MDI connector. That setup is plenty enough for me though I would have got the 12-speaker option if it had been available. Strangely enough, and this is what I wanted to mention, there is no aux in plug in the armrest (as mentioned in the local brochure too). I don't really need it with the MDI so I haven't thoroughly checked everywhere. The salesman was suprised and we checked in an Elegance model they had in the showroom, and there was no aux in plug in the armrest on that car either.
