can anyone point me in the right direction concerning replacing an alternator on a 1998 felicia but most importantly where the wires go as when i reconnect the battery i get a plume of smoke from alternator ( have a spare just in case though ) thanks

Alternators are quite well known for failing on the Felicia, usually go mad and start trying to charge the battery at around 19V.

Have you got the battery the right way around? You cant really get the connections wrong on the alternator, iirc you have one 13mm nut and a 8mm nut for the exciter wire so you cant really get them mixed up.

Sounds like maybe there is a dead short somehwere.

one of the wires disconnected comes from out of under the radiator

manual told me to connect battery pos first but when i go to connect neg all i get is a load of smoke from alt

prob started when reg went in alt so replaced reg before replacing alt

aa man disconnected wires so i could get home pn batt power alone
