98 felicia starter motor wiring

Featured Replies

a skoda loving friend owns a feliicia, I think its R reg 98? he lives over half hour away by car,, and he isnt online so phoned and asked me to put this question in for him, I just hope someone understands it because I dont!

He appears to have a faulty/damaged starter motor, and has to push the car to start it, which, being nearly 60 and not too well and very unfit, is not a clever idea, so he wants to fit a starter switch? in between two wires from the starter motor, so he bypasses it, and he wants to know what color wires would he connect it to on the ignition switch please? (or was it the starte motor? think he said ignition switch!)

Doesnt make any sense to me at all so probably wont to you either but Im hoping somebody "gets it". Please can someone help?

Thanks

Carole

Sounds like it's the usual problem of the ignition switch contacts failing - he may well find that wiggling the wiring on the back of the switch around can make it work again, and some folks have had success just wedging something in there to keep it all in the right place. Contrary to what the Haynes manual says, the switch itself can be replaced without having to remove the steering lock - someone posted details of that fairly recently, I recall.

For a short-term fix, though, and in answer to the original question, the yellow wire on terminal '50' of the ignition switch (also yellow at the starter solenoid) just needs to be connected to live to operate the starter. Hope that helps!

but remember that if you take the yellow wire off the starter you will have no dipped lights/heater fan or wipers

or just get it looked at properly and fixed I wouldn't want to be stranded anywhere due to a dodgy starter at that age
