Octavia II I would assume?

mk 1

What make of alarm is it then?

Is your battery recharged, Try getting in and arming it , if no siren sounds your siren is knackered, £105 pounds for the part, located in a box under the offside wing behind the liner. I speak from experience EDIT Just noticed it is a mk1 , same applies though not sure where the siren is on a mk1

That sounds like a CAT2 immobilizer, but as said your car doesnt have a standard alarm.
