Why is my girlfriends 1.9tdi so slow????

In 5th on a private road, it struggles to reach 84mph, and cant go above that - this was my old car before my vrs and im sure that when i bought it I maxed it at over 105 (private road again)

The car has recently had the timing belt and oil done and has 110k on the clocks. Its been a great car but I dread having to use it as its got zero acceleration.

Is it because I regularly drive my fabia vrs that makes the Tdi appear "slow"

Or do they just lose performance over time/miles?

Any thoughts........

Air Filter ? or Cam Belt Timinig out ?

Might be going into limp mode due to overboosting on hard acceleration. Worth finding someone with vagcom locally to scan the car.

Try disconnecting the MAF and see if that improves things. It shouldn't unless the MAF is faulty.

Must admit , mine has had a couple of MAF`s too , so could be that

Should top out at about 115-120 (well ours does) so get the fault codes read and check the air filter

I suspect it is throwing into limp mode at around 80mph hence why it won't go above it.

Good point, I just assume the OP would realise a huge difference in performance all of a sudden, but maybe not?

When I said top out at 84, I meant after several miles of foot flat to the floor in every gear - there is no quick loss of power. The car is the "smoothest" slow car ever.

Now that I think about it, many moons ago I had a K&N which made no difference to the power so I reverted back to OEM.

If the car is scanned for faults will that throw up MAF?

And if it does, will electrical spray cleaner sort it?
