'02 Vrs Headlight Help - no full beam on one side

Featured Replies

Hi, as per title, need a little help.

Basically the full beam on my passenger side headlight doesn't work (either when flashing with the stalk or switched to full beam) the drivers is fine.

I initially thought it was the bulb so replaced them today with some Phillips Extreme something-or-other jobbies but the problem remains, i was wondering if anyone knows if the driver and passengers headlights are fused seperately and where this fuse is?

I noticed while poking around under the bonnet today that the motor for the same headlight is obviously knackered and making an odd noise.

Incidentally the dipped beam is fine.

Any suggestions/pictures of your loom are helpful, i'm worried as the car is ex-police and there are cut wires all over the place from the removal of equipment. and i don't want to fork out for an auto electrician to sort it.

Thanks, Jon

Sounds like a bad earth maybe , have you pulled the connector off and sprayed with wd40, sorry cant be more of a help I have a M2 so not my forte

If this was mine and it had been "cut about" as you suggest, I'd just run a wire from the main beam terminal on the drivers side to the passenger side and run them both off the one feed. Yes, you're doubling the load, but it's still only 110 watts or so. If the fuse doesn't blow I'm sure you'll be fine.

Both sides are fused independently, if you look in the main fusebox (drivers side dash end) there should be a fuse layout diagram that shows whats fused where. Keep in mind the diagram is for LHD so needs to be mirrored for us RHD drivers.

Running a wire from one side to the other is a bad idea, yes it may work but the loading on the circuit will be way past its designed operating load and a damaged main loom is not what you want to be replacing, or worse still have a fire on your hands. You are basically more than doubling the power requirement on that circuit, due to bulb resistance etc. and the fact it would be a parallel and not serial connection both bulbs will be half brightness for twice the power. To get them in serial would involve rerouting earth connections from the good headlight, and if its an earth issue on the second light then it still wont light up.

If the fuse is good, then you may need to invest in a basic multimeter to check the wiring loom.
