VRS TDI 170

Featured Replies

Hi folks, Took a 2007 Octavia VRS TDI 170 estate for a test drive today 38900 on the clock and was expecting a big difference in power from my 2004 1.9 TDI Pd 130 estate which has covered 74000. However I was a bit surprised that it didn't seem alot more powerful. Could it be that the VRS will improve with mileage? Or am I expecting to much between the two cars.

Might be down to the extra weight of the mk2 over the mk1 cancelling out an power advantage in the BHP/tonne ratio.

I had a PD130 estate and it was properly quick. I went to a PD140 Mk2 and it didn't feel any quicker. I really missed my PD130 - it's still a cracking little oil burner.

The PD170 has a DPF fitted so the associated map to suit it may blunt the engines performance a little.

It is also very peaky, delivering most of it's punch in one hit. The CR engines are more linear in power delivery.

The Mk2 is probably a little more porky than the Mk1 as mdk mentioned this will eat into the BHP advantage.

If the vRS you tested has been nursed it won't help either.
