How tricky? Timing belt change on 1.9 TDI

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've had a bit of experience with mechanics, done a couple of timing belts on older cars in the past. Just want to know what's involved and if you need any special tools to do a belt change, water pump, pulleys etc... on a 1.9 TDI fabia?

Cheers,

Matt

Oh and when should they be replaced? I've search the web and there is conflicting information about this, 40K and 4 years, or 60K? Or what?

Cheers,

Matt

60k or 4 years which ever comes first!

It can be done without but I would suggest you buy or borrow the correct engine locking kit.

They are around £30 on fleabay and make the job much easier.

Grab a haynes manual or buy an elsawin electronic manual - takes much of the memory out of re-assembly.

You will need to support the engine whilst the engine mount is off.

This might be usefull, it's from the Fabia Technical Guides section. It's for the Fabia vRS so the part numbers may be different.
