Weird goings on with my Fabia

Featured Replies

Having a few little problems with the vRS(2006).

1. Driving along at random times my handbrake light comes on and a few beeps too

2. Power Steering light comes on and I loose the PAS until I stop and re-start

3. Engine managment light comes on(then maybe a few hours or a day later it goes off)

4. My headlights flicker while driving(usually on back bumpy roads, this only happens every so often - the interior lights on dash have a slight flicker too)

5. The alarm goes off too approx 3 out of 10 times I lock it, I can now predict when this will happen as the indicator lights don't seem to flash when I lock it and so the alarm sounds and using the key don't sort the problem either....I gotta stand in pure embarrassment pressing the buttons on the key fob until the things stops!

and FINALLY(lol) My stereo goes off for 1 second every now and then too

Is there a major problem or is it time to call the ghostbusters? lol

Thanks in advance

Fault code search would help to identify exact causes but sounds very battery like.

Battery? Could account for a fair few of them I reckon

Matt

Agreed - start with the battery.

My old Mondeo did very strange things while the battery was giving up the ghost.

check the earthing too :)

Thanks folks.....I'll try that and see. Tho the battery was changed withing the last approx 5k miles, maybe the recent cold snap of temps as low as -15 here have taken it's toll on the battery?.

Quite possibly the weathers fault.. Certainly not unheard of!

Most batteries have a few years worth of guarantee on them - take it back to the shop with receipt & say you think its on way out. They'll either test it there & confirm / deny this is the issue, or just give you a new one, which you can then test to see if this fixes it yourself.

Best of luck - fault finding electrical issues can be a bit challenging.

Does your battery light come on with the ignition?

Does your battery light come on with the ignition?

Nope, tho I think it comes on during my first point(not 100% sure)

Make sure, when you first switch the ignition on the battery light comes on (don't start the engine). If it doesn't then the DFM wire has broken to the alternator and this means it won't be charging.

Cheers bud, I'll give that a go in the morning and report back.....Thanks again

Tried this earlier and the battery light is coming on ok and I never started the engine. I did not get a chance to go and get the battery tested.

Faulty alternator (possible failed internal diode) giving alternating charging impulses.

Typical headlights going from bright to yellow alternating emitted light.

Thanks for info...

FYI...

I have a HID kit in the car......would that conflict with anything?

No probs....thanks for the help tho.

Mines been a bit funny too which i put down to the weather,

How does yours start in cold first thing in morning?

I normally have to warm up the glow plugs 3 times in order for it to turn over straight away. Otherwise it takes 5 seconds or so ticking over

Mines always starts first time which is strange, even on a couple of mornings at -12 and -15!!

These wee motors are fantastic but not made for winter me thinks!!

UPDATE as of 21/1/2011

Most of my problems have mysteriously gone away. Well most of the time!. Still have to get battery checked out sometime soon.
