Octavia VRS Suspension Advice

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Sorry if this has been asked before, I have searched but not found the information I'm in need of.

Basically the suspension on my 2001 VRS has died a death and I now need to replace it. Sadly I don't have the budget for coilovers (or atleast I don't think I do) so I have been looking at spring and damper kits. It seem though that every kit I find for the Octavia doesn't fit the VRS. Also, without wanting to be a pain, I do alot of miles in the car so don't really want anything to hard.

I was looking at the Koni SRT.T kit until I discovered it doesn't fit.

Any help and advice will be greatfully appreiciated.

Thanks

Dean.

Have a look through these mate or contact Damian whose a site sponsor and I'm sure he'll be able to help.

A few run weitec gt coilovers, myself Inc and I find them excellent value for money and although there stiffer than standard suspension there still comfy (don't shake your teeth out).

Thread Jack

How much can you do me a set of weitec gt coilovers, and suitable RARB?

Cheers

Ive got Spax RSX's on my car and they are superb, buil, ride adjustment imo far better than the AP or weitec ones and at least it give you the otion to adjust the bump and rebound (stiffness)

You cant go wrong with these as they have a massive amount or adjustment on them, 28 turns so if you like it just a bit stiffer than normal or like its on rails the adjustment is there.

You got a vrs?

Not seen the rsx listed for one but goin by the prices they'll be way out of the OP's budget.

But I agree about them being a good bit of kit with plenty of adjustment but the prices take the p***

+1.

I got the Weitecs, 1) because a number of members had them and felt they were pretty good and 2) they were just over £600 fitted including bump stops and alignment.

Thanks very much for all the advice guys, I've order the weitec coilovers from DPM last night. Thanks to Damian for the great service and price. Didn't think I had the budget for coilovers, turns out I was wrong. :)

Glad we were able to help and I'm sure you'll be pleased with them

It's wise to change the front top mounts and bearings at the same time aswell

Hi

Ive not got an RS but a 130pd and the kit is for a MK4 which had the same ARB points as the RS and ive fitted the longer drop links which go from the ARB to the strut rather than the suspension arm

And they are not as much as the Weitecs, i dont think

They cost me £560 and that was the set with the rear adjustable spring plates(one kit doesnt have them and is a bit cheaper!)

And as a comparison i used to have KW's on my M3 and to be honest i prefer the Spax set up!

Think you will find the SPAX RSX kit for the VRS is dearer than the none VRS.

They are different poundages and not sure that your PD130 comes with same ARB / drop link set up as the VRS. Certainly the std MK4 golf does not have the same and uses drop link from wishbone to ARB. Only the Golf R32 in the Golf range shares the VRS set up. That is not to say you could not change it over as appears yours is.

No the 130pd has the same set up and any other octy its only the VRS thats got the different arb drop link brackets on the suspension legs

Ive just had a look at the site that i bought them from! And they only list it for the VRS!!!!!

Which is curious as mines got the ARB bracket on the suspesion leg like the RS which to be honest i was suprised to see when i got them out the box

Also to be honest there probably isnt a great deal in the spring rates between the kits, if at all!

As the diesel is the heavest car you wouldve thought that that would have the greater srping and damping rates!

But i know on the cheaper kits like JOM the rates are all the same and that kit on a diesel with the heavey front end is terrible

But with a kit like the spax RSX its so stiff and has so much adjustment on the bump/rebound i would put my money on all the springs being the same across the whole octy range.

here the link from where i got mine from and it lists the range

http://www.venommotorsport.com/manufacturer_product.php?manufacturer=Spax&category=suspension&product=RSX&make=Skoda&model=Octavia

I thought i may have had a Golf set but i dont think i have now! just wondered why the set up that ive got has the brackets on the legs unless they are generic for the whole range as it doesnt list a set for the vrs on 1.8T!!!!!

Hi Buddy, that is what i mean , your PD Octy is the same ARB Front end set up a the all MK1 Octy's minus the VRS which is the same as all the MK4 Golf platform minus the R32.

So yes it is strange you have a VRS type drop link set up?

That Venom motorsport link does not actually show a VRS kit so i can't compare. It does show all other 1U models,

I guess what you are saying is it appears all the kits have the bracket for a VRS type drop link set up, so you could benefit from that with yours.

That does not mean the kit is right for a VRS as SPAX probably saves money, time using std outer strut that contains that bracket??

Although you can change the rebound and height the spring is still the same poundage at the end of the day.

That is not to say they would not work on a VRS though

I have used springs before (the dreaded Eibachs) that stated for diesel and completely messed up the VRS handling so it would be good to see someonewho has fitted a VRS Spax kit to get there feedback and see what the kit ref was to compare.

Glad they work well for you though and they do same a very well made peice of kit

Thinking of changing my Weitecs soon.
