Wiper settings - which menu item?

Featured Replies

I’ve read before that the Yeti’s rear wiper will wipe when you select reverse. Mine does not do this. Does it only do it when the front wipers are on? On a Renault I had it wiped regardless of the front wiper being on or not when you selected reverse. My front wipers also don’t do the extra last wipe after a period when you’ve done a wash-wipe. Furthermore my rear wiper does not park in different positions (the front ones do move sometimes to another position when they park). Is there another obscurely named tick-in-a-box that I need to do to enable some of these things?

Interesting. I find it really irritating that my rear wiper does work when I select reverse even when my front ones are not on so I would like to turn this off. I will need to do the reverse of whatever you are told to do.

The rear wiper on mine does not park in different positions as per the front ones so that may just be the way it is I'm afraid.

I don't find the Maxidot descriptions that great or helpful, a shame really as it is there to make life easier.

I don't want the rear one to park differently either... and to be honest just want to know where these settings are hidden, or if they have now been taken out on new cars! Yesterday was the first time I wanted the rear wiper to wipe when I selected reverse as the car had been standing and was covered in rain but it was not raining. Not the biggest problem in the world to just push the stalk forward I know. But I'd still like to experiment!

Wel my Yeti's rear wiper does make one sweep when I select reverse, though I am not too sure of the circumstances!! I have auto wipers by the way.

On a wet day....

If I select reverse with the front wipers on continuous, I get one sweep from the back.

If I select reverse & have the fronts on Auto, sometimes the rear one gives one sweep, sometimes it doesn't - it seems to depend how recently the fronts last did their own sweep & how long I've been driving. Seems to have a mind of its own.

Sometimes, if I select reverse and have left the fronts on Auto, I get one sweep, even if it's a perfectly dry day & the fronts have not been used. So I now leave the fronts off rather than Auto, as I dont want the rear glass to end up being scratched.

As an aside, when driving at over 50ish mph in the wet, with the fronts on Auto, the rear will give a single sweep every so often, the frequency seems to depend on how often the fronts decide to "auto wipe" and what speed I'm doing. The rear also does this if I've sleceted continuous wiping on the fronts too.

Sorry, I'm not being much help am I?

No it does help. See mine does NONE of that. So there is a tick in a box somewhere to enable that... OR that tick has been taken away on more recent Yetis... I have not seen anything in my Maxidot called "Wipers". Or perhaps I need new glasses! emoticon-0103-cool.gif

If no one answers shortly I will pop out to my car and see what I have ticked and unticked and let you know.

johann,

on the maxidot, select the following;

settings

lights and vision

tick the rear wiper box.

bit of a strange place to put it but sort of logical... ish

this will make the rear wiper sweep once when you select reverse if you have recently operated the front wipers in any switch position.

it will also cause the rear wiper to sweep intermittently when front wipers are on continuously and you are driving at more than a certain speed. think it's 70kmh?

edmund,

you need to go the same route but untick the rear wiper box

There is a setting in the maxidot to turn off rear wiper, I understand that stops it wiping every 5th front wipe.

Mike

edit: you beat me to it YetiClive

Ah. Well found that this Wiper setting was in fact ticked... And then found it only works with the stalk set to Auto! That is why mine did not come on when I selected reverse! Doh. It sometimes wipes out of the blue and with all the salt on the roads creates more of a mess than anything else. So I had been driving with the wipers off for some time - hence no wipe on reverse. Problem solved.
