Load signal wire - Does it actually turn off the ASR or just put the light on?

Featured Replies

As above. My load signal wire is broken and so short on the clip that its going to be a pain to fix.

Atm, the light comes on after 10 mins or so of driving. Does this actually cause the ASR to turn off or just the light come on?

Craig.

ASR turn off i assume, as load signal wire means it has data across it no?

Dont think it does turn off the ASR, but obviously the battery wont be charging.

You just need to extend the wires a bit and remove the plug, five minute fix.

Parents didn't have their ASR light going when their alternator signal wire snapped. I don't think the alternator is related to ASR at all really?

It is an easy fix though, even if it's close to the plug. We just bypassed the plug. Job done.

Doesn't ASR have something to do with the ABS sensors?

It is directly linked to the ASR IIRC.

And the issue it the wire next to the plug is so short... i cant solder haha.

When wether dries io shall take it off and make a short rig for it.

Didnt realise it didnt charge the battery if broke -.-

When mine snapped the ASR behaved completely normal?

The only light that didn't was the Battery light, it wouldn't light up on the 1st click before the engine had started.

I thought the battery still charged? But only when the engine was over 2000 rpm? Mine was snapped for about a month and the batt didn't go flat in daily use?

Just a thought... You could get another plug from the a loom on a scrapper? Lop it off with 6in of the loom hanging off it. Just a case of connecting the cable then

True. However, theres not 1 skoda at my local dealer. Nor anything remotely similiar.

When its a bit more dry ill get underneath and also try and find my solder iron :giggle:

ASR (traction control) has nothing to do with the alternator or the charging system.

The ABS system is very sensitive to low/fluctuating battery voltage, so I'm not surprised that the ABS and/or ASR lights are on if the load wire is broken

Hmm... ive allways been told it is whats causing my issue!

In that case.

Ill try and fix it tomoz if weather is good and then look at a new battery possibly. Seem to be getting the steering light on start up aswell which i know is a sign of the battery.

Also had the battery show up on vagcom.

Which isnt suprising if the alternator isnt charging, doesnt work on magic.

Well I thought that the Varta/Bosch silver S5 ones did (joke!).

For anyone that has, or knows someone that has a Costco card, they sell Bosch silver batteries - and at very good prices, for my 2000 B5 Passat 2.8, I found that Halfords with their current money off, were selling the correct battery for my car, an S5 080 for £125 - Costco were selling an S5 070 for £70, that one was 15mm lower in height and 4Ah lower and maybe 15Amps lower - but all this meant it still exceeded the spec for the original battery "EN" parameters, though I'm sure that even the method of quantifying these batteries specs do change with time. So, I went for the £70 option and pocketed the £55 "change". Now one thing, Costco do only hold a "shortened" selection of the full Bosch silver S5 range, with so buyers with no doubt will mean ending up buying a slightly smaller battery than the factory fitted one and for some I'd reckon it will mean buying a slightley bigger battery - with no option for them to order in the correct one as they do with Michelin tyres.

Either way maybe check the Halford's site for "your" replacement Bosch battery size - though the batteries short code is covered up by the Halford's code - just check the numbers shown elsewhere on the picture of the battery and compare them with the Bosch website info (if you want to know the exact dimensions and parameters) and take it form there. I did not know until this time that Varta and Bosch were the same group - but these batteries do seem to get a good write up when considering value for money - and we are going to get a few more really cold winters it seems.
