vRS to Scout

Featured Replies

Tell me your thoughts on this potential deal. Speaking to the dealer who I bought my current car from.

Thinking of changing from my current vRS to a petrol octavia scout to take advantage of the VAT free offer.

So the spec of the car I would order would be 1.8 TSI petrol scout with:

Metallic paint

polished proteus alloys

multifunction steering wheel with maxidot

xenon headlights

LED daytime running lights

Space saver spare wheel

Heated front seats

Variable boot floor

Giving a VAT free offer price of £19357

My current car is a vRS FL CR DSG Octavia Hatch , 9mths old with 14000 miles on clock.

Spec over includes MFSW & Maxidot, front & rear parking sensors, auto-lights and wipers, spare wheel and it's Race Blue

I have been offered £15,000 trade-in against the Scout so price to change of £4357.

Am I being crazy when I had a price to change figure of more like £2000 ish in my mind when I first contacted the dealer? I realise they need to make money on the sale, but the part-ex figure doesn't really reflect what the current used values are doing for diesel DSGs.

Thoughts?

Hmmm the price for the Scout looks steep to me. My diesel one with leather but otherwise similar spec was £21,300 from a main dealer - Drivethedeal could do it for a shade under £20k - it's worth comparing with their online valuation. The car you are trading is seriously attractive so I would be choosy.

P.s. Have you test driven the Scout? I've moved to my Scout from a standard 140 TDI e

Elegance and been quite surprised how much slower the Scout is, especially at speed. It's a great car but worth being aware of.

Just realised you are going for the petrol, which will be fine. It was ok for Clarkson...

dunno but surely its a risky deal, your car has lost the biggest chunk its going to, and over the next 12 months a brand new scout is going to do the same? Plus you get a slower, more fuel hungry car, in a climate where fuel prices are only going to go up?!

edit...

just noticed VRS DSG 10 plate are pushing 19K used on autotrader....they are trying to screw you IMO. No chance.

Might just be worth considering you have done 14k miles in 9 months... is a petrol Scout (which is going to be even worse than usual petrol's on mpg) definitely the right choice?

Mileage will be dropping with job change and kinda like the thought of 4WD and an Estate boot with a new baby, two dogs and a wife in tow!

should have mentioned i bought this car ex-demo with 8k miles on the clock

I'd get quotes from a few more dealers - sounds like you should be able to get a better deal than that.

I paid 17.5k for my Scout at the end of July with a very similar spec.

I got same spec less DRL but plus leather on 140 CR for 20 k on DTD and petrol Im sure was tad over 18k

PS IMO DRL dont work on Scout they look great on VRS but on Scout you lose the fog lamps and having spoken to friend with them he regrets it as every one comes up to him and says "Hey mate youve got your fog lamps on!"

Just checked DTD with your full spec £18537.12 so bit cheaper than dealer and defo your trade in worth more

Yeah, thanks. I see that the DTD price is cheaper, but as I can't be without a car, part-exchange is more attractive than selling car privately and potentially having to hire a car for a while.

Not sure what to do ......

Might try another dealer or two

you could have a point about the DRL's. That at least would shave £150 or so off the price!

IMO DRL don’t work on Scout they look great on VRS but on Scout you lose the fog lamps.

Are the DRL's still £230?

This is a real cheek considering they are in lieu of the fog lights and have a simpler light switch.

I'd heard they were bundled together in a package which includes the dimming rear view mirror and auto (tunnel) headlights - which are ALREADY standard on the Scout!?

He regrets it as every one comes up to him and says "Hey mate you’ve got your fog lamps on!"

This will get to be less of a problem as more and more people get accustomed to DRL's

£155 for the DRLs

If I had the choice I would order them.

I'm trying to think of the last time I had the need for front fogs. I've used them only a couple of times in my driving career, and even then not been overly impressed with the additional visibility they provide in dense fog.

The DRL's will ensure your car looks modern and bang up to date as more and more car's are now having them fitted as standard.

Whether people like them or not is irrelevant, LED DRL's are here to stay.

It's a shame Skoda (and some other manufacturers) feel the need to charge for DRL's on the Scout, especially as they are standard on all other Octavia models, they should be an FOC alternative to front fogs. But at least you'll get your money's worth if they improve your day time visibility.

No, No, No - your vRS is WAY undervalued, especially now the VAT offer has gone with the diesels models. Tell the dealer to shuv it! You can get a better deal than this - your car will sell at ANY dealer any day of the week given the spec and dealers are not concerned these days about two owner cars.

I would suggest looking on the 'trader' and phoning around to do the deal - you'll be amazed at the price differences between dealers throughout the UK

I wouldn't personlly go for the petrol Scout but if that's what you want ASK the dealers about a diesels order then convert to a petrol order and get the little known £1000 incentive they have in their back pockets if they are asked!

Ringing around will pocket you another grand or so leaving you closer to your £2k balance to change. ;)

Never take a car back to the same dealer for another deal - they know too much about your previous deal and will want to balance their books.

Even the dreaded webuyanycar.com value my car at £17,830!

This deal won't fly with the current dealer.

Even though it's miles away, I've emailed James Rothwell at Allam's to see if he can offer any better.

If you can get it to near 2K it sopunds a no brainer to me, The Scout is a cracking car & the 4x4 is a real joy when pushing on in the wet let alone in snow & ice.

With the sort of mileage you are looking at petrol again would be my choice, we opted for Diesel buy with 20K since may it was for us the right choice.

I agree with others comments on price, ours was the same spec as yours less the proteus & DRL's but Diesel & with Alcantara trim & was still sub 20K & that was through a dealer in Kent.

Re the DRL's dont they have to be fitted to all cars after jan 1 so how come its an extra, I would check the law, decline it & see if you get them anyway. Personally I have found the fogs useful but thats just maybe my ageing eyes

DRL's are only mandatory from February for brand new cars. By brand new I mean new never seen before models.

As the Scout is already in production in it's current guise they won't be compulsory until it's next redesign/facelift.

This means that Skoda is free to charge for what is fast becoming a fashion accessory rather than safety feature!

Unfortunately I fall into the vain category and would definitely pay to have some cool sparkly fairy lights on the front of my Scout! :giggle:

West End Garage in Livingston have offered a part-exchange of £15,846, leaving a price to change of £3,600.

An improvement.

Will see if other dealers can get closer to £3,000

Try Chathams in Dunfemline. I dealt with Donald King, played him and Stuart from West end off against each other and managed to get a very attractive deal from Donald.

I have previously dealt with Stuart at West End though and he is a top bloke

I suspect your problem with the part exchange price is the delivery date of a new Scout. Unless you are willing to give the dealer your old car now they are guestimating it's likely value in possibly 6 months time.

I had exactly the same problem last July when I ordered a diesel Scout and ended up doing a deal whereby they had my trade in immediately. I got about £2K extra and purchased an old Mk1 Octavia 4x4 to run a round in for a few months. Sold it in November when the Scout arrived for £200 more than I paid for it so it - the weather had just turned nasty and cheap 4x4's were in great demand.

I got same spec less DRL but plus leather on 140 CR for 20 k on DTD and petrol Im sure was tad over 18k

Have to disagree with this. My last 3 cars over 9 years had Fogs and I can only ever remember having to use them once. In the 5 months I've had my car I've not had a single comment on Fogs.

On fast A roads I often used to have my Xenons on. Dont feel the need with the DRL's as they are very, very bright so prolonging the Xenons life. Hopefully. With a bit of luck :-)
