Running Audio/Amp cables under the carpet and trim?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to fit an amp when I get my new speakers and I think I might have to put it in the boot so would have to run cables back under the carpet. How do I go about lifting the carpet to do this? Also, is it fairly straightforward to get out the bits of trim under the dash and so - on that I will need to get behind in order to run the cables from the head unit? Any links to guides, advice or explanations would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks, Dougie.

er.. power went on LHS of car, pull up the plastic trimmings on the sides, its held on by metal clips.

RCA I personally went, inside middle section (where the handbrake etc is) then cross to the RHS of car at the back of the drivers seat. I didnt want to run RCA around pedals or in that side of dash as I feel its a safety thing. Each to their own though. Im sure theres a guide somewhere on some sections..

The plastic trims are VERY firmed held on - when trying to dry my carpets out I couldn't get them off!

I've recently rewired mine, but previously I had just shoved wire up the plastic trim gap.

I'd love to know how to get the plastic trims off though! It'd make things a heck of a lot easier. Like DRJ said, they don't seem to budge....

It's not too hard, I recently had all the seats out and carpets out 'so' that be the best bet but that's a bit drastic. If I wer you id run it down the sides under the trims, you can get them off without too much hassel (I found) if you start from the back and work forward its easier as they all interlock, they will all just pull off.

I could get the one off by the back seat - which requires the release of two fasteners first - but then I got stuck. I tried carefully levering with a screwdriver but was fearful of marking the plastic - and there was no evidence of any movement.

I find taking the seats out is well worth it for the few mins it takes, give you much more room to work in, easier to get the carpets up and centre console out (run the RCAs down the middle).

With trims you just need to be firm but careful.

Thanks all, I don't mind too much where they go as long as they are hidden. Do you think you would get an RCA back to the amp and a set of speaker cables back up to the front under the side trims without too much hassle? I'd take the seats out but I don't have anywhere dry and spacious to work. I've never had any trim out of the fabia and I'm assuming I'll need to remove trim from under the dash or the glove box? Is this stuff pretty easy to get off, or at least is it pretty self evident how it comes off?

Thanks aagain. Still waiting for the speakers to turn up then I need to get hold of an amp and I can get started.
