Featured Replies

OK nice quick idiot question (no surprise coming from me !) ....

How do I know whether my octavia is set to long life or standard servicing please ?

Thanks everyone in advance :)

Hiya,

There should be a sticker on the inside front cover of your service booklet (or it could be in the luggage compartment, but it's the book with mine), with a long list of codes. Look and see if it has QG1 code, which I think is long life servicing (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong people!).

What he said :-)

A 2002 one should be on longlife servicing I would have thought.

Are you planning on servicig it yourself? Also where in Norfolk are you?

Gt. Yarmouth here.

The sticker in the boot and service book will be pretty pointless on a 9 year old car as the car could of been swapped to fixed service schedule at any time.

You need to look in the service book for the mileage when the next service is due, this will be either 10K after the last service or it will say 'variable'.

Thanks for all the answers ... lo and behold printed in my service book is QG1 ... still bit worried as I do a lot of stop start driving ... maybe treat it to an intermediate service lol

Well I will do probably do the intermediate services myself (looking at using a pela pump) .. I have a local garage that I trust to do the rest :)

Yup I am based in Great Yarmouth (in ormesby to be precise !) ... so very local to you lol

Mind you my luck is holding true .. its just used a litre of coolant in a week and I can't find any trace of where its going ...EEEEK !!!!! so garage tomorrow I feel lol

doh !! lol The guy who had it before serviced it himself (he traded it in ..I bought from place he traded) ... I have the receipts and it looks like he was using halfrauds 5/40 full synthetic which I think is the one for variable servicing ?

it may be having a full renew anyway depending on where this blinking coolant is going to !!! lol

I know Ormesby very well. Grew up on Leathway!!

I also do a lot of short stop starts in my Octavia. The sticker said variable service, but you can convert it when the service light comes on, there is a thread on here for it. (Turning the ignition on, and holding the trip reset, when the service light flashes turn the clock adjuster left and right I think??)

So when I bought mine, although it had full service history, with one being done not long before I bought it, the charge for the oil was £9.70. So I opted to change it myself. Used Mobil 1.

Not sure what a "pela pump" is, do you mean one of those pumps that suck the oil up the dipstick hole??

I found it dead easy to crawl under mine, remove the splash guard and drop the oil out of the sump plug!!

If your coolant isn't in your oil.. look for the ususal white emulsion on the end of your dipstick, I'd have a closer look for the leak!!

yeah pela's are oil sucky things (oo technical lol) .. seems like the octavia was made for them seeing as it has oil filter at top, etc :)

Quick sigh of relief ... coolant was only leaking under pressure ... from a housing near the radiator ... in the garage tomorrow being fixed ... also having a new expansion tank fitted as theres scum all over the min / max area so I can't see the levels ....lol

Might invest in a vagcom system I think ... wonder if these are as programmable as A8's are ? :)
