Self servicing of a Fabia

Featured Replies

OK, we all know times are hard and non more so than here right now :'( so Ive been thinking I might service my Fabia myself when the 20k one is due shortly. Im pretty competant so no issues there and I dont plan on selling the car for a while so not worried about residuals. Skoda want around £200 to do an inspection service, which involves a lot of looking at parts but only changing oil, filter and pollen filter.... £60 worth of parts and oil!

But, in the manual it states how to reset the service indicator, then warns against doing so as this can affect the functioning of the vehicle!!! What on earth are they on about, we reset them loads on VWs and its an easy couple of seconds job so what could happen?

ok but if you service it your self the balance of your warranty becomes null and void , that fine if nothing major go's wrong in the first 3 years but if it does and you do your self-service you'll be :'( :'( :'(

If your car is out of warranty then give it a try. It's quite easy, but if you are still under warranty then petrify your heart and visit your dealer. An alternative is to visit an independent VAG speciallist. In my country they are quite cheaper than the dealers.

Does having a service done by a garage which isn't a Skoda garage affect the warranty?

I was wondering if it was worth taking out Skoda's service plan, however I don't know if there was a time limit after buying the car to take out the plan.

No as long as they are VAT registered, use OE quality parts and carry out the service as per Skodas guidelines.

Didn't think it would, that's good news as my local garage I have always trusted, always used genuine bits when I had my Yaris serviced there, can't see them being any different with the new car.

Might be worth pricing up.

What are the dealer costs for first 3 years of fabia servicing if you go that route to keep warranty? One question I did not ask when I placed my order !

Are they not still doing the 2yrs servicing offer on the vRS? I saw an offer for 2yrs for £95 last year, and I'm sure I saw a 2 years free servicing offer somewhere recently?

Nothing on the Servicing was offered to me like this, although I, nor the dealer mentioned the subject anyway. I was too busy signing up to what I thought was a very good deal and he was too busy sorting out the order forms.

Does anyone know what the costs are if not on a service plan ?

Well, with all the Fiats Ive owned I used to get the first service done by the dealer and then self service. Never once needed the warranty other than for trim rattles, so are you all saying the Fabia is likely to need warranty repairs as in my experiance cars dont go wrong in their first three years :giggle:

I normally bite the bullet and have it serviced with a dealer whilst in warranty. I am no mechanic but feel this is the best way to go for my cirucmstances.

However I wondered what the first 3 years services are posted as in terms or cost so I can compare to the RX8 I am coming over from. I would like to think the Skoda will be cheaper over 3 years to service than the RX8 due to its Rotary engine, it has an expensive service every 3 years.

If anyone can tell me prices for year 1, 2 and 3 (approx of course) that would be appreciated.
