Convenience unit wet

Featured Replies

Right, thanks to the brilliant guides and threads on here, I've manage to get the door car off, take out the convenience unit and dry it out. I've had the unit of itself and even had a hairdryer on to clear any moisture, but no luck. The only issue is that the driver's door won't work off the fob, all other functions work correctly.

Has anyone on here got a suggestion of what to do next? I've checked the fuses, although number 6 isn't present in the fuse box. The handbook lists number 6 as the central locking control unit, so should it be there? In the five years I've had the car there hasn't been a need to look at the fuses, so I've never looked before.

I'm thinking that a new convenience unit is needed, but before I go down that road, I want to do all the DIY stuff first. I have a bit of a thing when it comes to giving dealerships money for something I can sort at home.

So, I'll leave it with the people on here and see if you've got a good idea for me to try next.

Thanks,

Andrew.

p.s. Today would be good as it's sunny for the first time in ages!

Okay, a bit of an update. I've spent ages cleaning the contacts, doing everything previous posts say, but no luck. Does anyone know the correct part number so I can call the dealership tomorrow? Just to make sure, it's this convenience unit I'm looking at,

I did 'borrow' the photo from here

http://www.internationalcarforums.com/skoda-octavia/1515-skoda-octavia-electric-windows-locks-2.html

which helped as well as the posts on here. Shame mine isn't responding to the treatment that seems to fix everyone else's. :'(

Another option is if anyone has a second hand unit or complete door so I can strip the bit off? I know I'm grasping at straws, but I'm sure you'll appreciate my desire to fix this. :(

that pic isn;t the convenience unit - thats the window motor/regulator

my car had exactly the same fault - check teh door loom first as its the most likely to have failed

mine ended up replacing ccu, regulator and doorloom at a parts cost of over £400

Thanks for the reply. So, I'm heading in the wrong direction? Where's the loom then? I've left the door card off and am operating the door with the cable for the time being. A pointer as to what to do would be great.

the loom is all over the door!!!

most looms fail where the door hinges, this fatigues the wires, check the relevant cables are getting power through to the regulator you should be getting a constant voltage

Thanks again. Since I replied, your advice helped with the search function and brought up a load of older threads, some going back quite a while. It seems as though it's quite common and a right pain to solve. I wanted to catch it before other things are affected and I have to start chasing Gremlins around the car. I may have to seek help on this one as I don't have any testing equipment. Thanks for the advice so far.
