Key Cutting

Featured Replies

Need a couple of new blades cutting for my Fabia as i only recieved one key...Anyone point me in the direction of somebody with a good reputation?

Can a second hand fob be reprogrammed to my car aslong as the part numbers match and can this be done from VAG-COM or is it dealer only?

Fob wise - the remote bit can, the key can't.

For the remote, it's something simple like put 1 key in the ignition, the other in the door. Then turn the ign. on, and press the lock button on the 2nd key. Something simple like that anyway.

All the fobs on Ebay seem to be a different part number so ill have to price up a new one at VW TPS

Is it really that simple to sync a new key?

You will need a transponder coding to the car to.

I found that. Or different frequencies.

Yeah, for coding the key to the car (and not the remote fob) you'll need to go get it done via a PC. VAGCOM can do it too - it's what my indy uses I think, and they can code them for me.

But the remote bit is that easy - think it's explained in the instructions somewhere (or is in the one for my VW anyway).

Oh yeah, the SKC thing. If you don't have that - VAG won't/can't give it to you anymore. People like shark on here can get it though.

Yip will not give it me :(

How does shark get it dude ?

Er, it's a program called VAG-TACHO I think mate. Same sorta thing as VAGCOM, only different features. Can be used for the SKC stuff, as well as the changing mileages on the system (if I remember right). You can buy said software I think, but for what it's worth - I'd just pay someone like shark the ~£30 and get them to do it for me.

VW claim they can't get it. It's all done in one system where it talks to Germany (or Cheq (sp) for you I guess), and gets the SKC and then writes straight to the key without the techs. seeing it.

Hi everyone, I'm new here so please be gentle!!

I have had a look through a lot of the threads about cutting keys, and have found a lot of great information about doing it myself, but am basically just looking for someone to supply and cut a second key for my son's Fabia (05 reg Classic) at a sensible price. Do not need a remote, just a plain key will be fine. Any recommendations of someone in Essex or East London (we're based in Epping) would be gratefully received.

Many thanks in advance

Keith
