Green Cotton Filters

Featured Replies

Wondering where's the best to get a green cotton filter for my mk1 vRS. I've done a search but stuff is at least 4 years old so things have probably changed. Cheers in advance.

The Green Filter seems the most popular on here (over k&n and pipercross etc) so that's what made me think about getting one.

If you just want a drop in replacement for your panel filter go for pipercross it is a dry filter and only needs cleaning no oiling. If you get one that needs oiling you will have no problems if you use the correct amount of oil, you will see people complaining that they have sensor trouble and oil coating the insides of the air filtration system, this is only due to too much oil being used. Pipercross from the Pipercross shop UK. I believe Opie Oils do K&N.

Just put a new paper one in every 10k. Diesels run on excess air anyway, so any 'extra' air that passes a panel filter compared to a clean paper one is just an indication of its weaker filtration capability rather than any potential improvement on performance.

IMHO :giggle:

Doesn't black smoke mean fuel is un burnt, which suggests theres not enough air?

To get the revs to increase at all, you need to inject more fuel for sure and this affects the fuel:air ratio. But to get the injectors and turbo to work in perfect sync so that there was NEVER any smoke would mean the FBW throttle was even more unresponsive than it already is. Black smoke while cruising is a sign of a lack of air getting into the engine. Under load, it's just a reminder you're driving a diesel car! ;)

Now, I don't deny a clean paper filter and the PD160 on my car doesn't help with the smoke, but if just fitting a bigger air intake / high-flow air filter was all it took to solve diesel smoking once and for all, then there would be no need for DPFs and the diesel-driving world would be a much happier place! :giggle:

I just bought a green panel filter for my mk1 Fabia vrs. You can find them from Demon tweaks on ebay. It feels much nicer to drive to me. I am used to having cone filters on my previous petrol cars but after reading the advice on this forum just got the panel filter, anything is better than paper from my experience. Green panel filters are good for about 40k so if I ever cover that mileage I will just get a new one. Sounds more grumpy at 3500rpm :) . They are ment to be MAF freindly and I have had no issues so far. Have a look at this :
