Turbo Whoosh...

Featured Replies

Have noticed in the last few days that the turbo in my Furby vRs makes a whooshing noise on acceleration, where it used to make more of a whistling noise, it sounds like someone has put on the air con full blast when the accelerator is pressed any more than moderately. I actually checked to make sure all the windows in the car were closed as it is that sort of wind-rushing sound. Anyone else experienced similar? Maybe I'm just hearing things in my old age...

Have you done anything to the car? The engine noise changed after I fitted my Green Panel Filter, but I'd still say the turbo whistled rather than whooshed :D Maybe worth having a look under the bonnet and making sure all your pipes are still firmly connected? :)

Yep, fitted Green Filter, have checked pipes etc. all seems fine, usually get the whistling sound, but immediately drowned out by the whooshing, must be from the filter, as it does sound like air being sucked in.

Have a look if anything appears to be loose under the bonnet perhaps. It is worth dropping it into the garage for a quick check, it's probably something simple :)

I've seen the pipes knacker that conect onto the manifold, they have lugs that hold the pipe in, they seem to wear and let the pipe leak and long term they blow out! The golf ones are now modified not tried to order a Skoda one yet.

Get it remapped and then it gets even louder.

I think its a normal noise, but it might be worth checking it out. Get someone to blip the throttle while you listen with the bonnet up. :)

If it starts whistling very loudly then I would get your turbo checked out mighty pronto, as I know what it's like to have a turbo go and it's not very funny. The thick end of

Aye, I think its ok, just me getting paranoid about my wee beauty!!! Am seeing no change in the actual performance of the car, no black clouds of smoke on acceleration, well, no more than usual!!

Mine used to make a sound under acceleration like I had turned the fans on full blast inside the cabin. What was the reason? A 6 inch crack in the intercooler pipe after an uninsured driver collided with me.

That's exactly the sound mine makes, I'll have another look around the engine bay, I've had no misadventures in the car yet (toudh wood) so I don't think anything could have split or cracked on mine.

When they looked at my car and told me this, they also said that as a result, the car may well be down on power. It [the noise] doesnt sound right to me to be honest, but I hope its ok.

I don't know at all, mine isn't down on power as far as i can tell, still feels as quick as when i got it, moreso with the Green filter in it. Will take another look when I get home, if I don't see anything untoward then I'll leave it until the first service comes up.

Is it smoking a lot under acceleration do you notice? When I had the problem, mine smoked like a b*****d.
