Has anyone changed their order after VAT deal ended?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has successfully managed to add more options to their order? I'm specifically talking about people who ordered before the end of last year and tried to amend thiem this year after the VAT free deal had ended for diesels.

I decided I should really have ticked the box for the Auto dim mirror/ lights/ wipers so I phoned my dealer today to see if I could ammend my order.

He reckoned that normally it would be ok but he couldn't do it in my case as the car was 'price-protected' and if he opened it up to change the options it would lose that protection, effectively creating a new order and I would therefor have to pay the VAT :(

Didn't sound like he was trying to pull a fast one but I just thought I would check if anyone else had managed to change spec without losing discount.

I changed my order a couple of weeks after ordering. I added the factory Bluetooth and the dealer changed the order with no problem.

My understanding is orders can be changed up until build week is 'confirmed'.

I have experienced some garages who are reluctant to make changes as it too much like hard work for thememoticon-0120-doh.gif

If the dealer will not be adaptable to your reasonable request, speak to SUK to see if you have got the correct story from your dealer.

FYI I have found the auto dim mirror/ light / wipers to be very useful. The mirror especially is very good as the dimming effect is graduated depending on the brightness of the lights shining behind you

I have tried to add the MDI to my order and was told it was impossible without re-ordering the car and then the finance etc would change. My dealer appears straight up and has gone as far as to try and source and after market install kit to put it in for me. That sounds more like hard work than a re-order.

Depends how flexible the ordering system is really. If you trust what your dealer is telling you, it sounds like because of the type of deal you've achieved, the amending of an order at this stage isn't possible.

Probably because the system isn't capable of handing a request of this type, because effectively the extras you want to add would have to be at the revised VAT rate etc.

Ordered on the 24th Dec and didn't include maxidot, called my dealer and was initially told the same 're-order' story but he would try.

After my build week was brought forward (yes ! Petrol vRS though) to week 4/5 he said he would have to make some calls (to the factory, SUK, I don't know) but got back to me with the good news that maxidot has been added so it is possible, right down to the wire. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice gents.

Malc- you're absolutely right...... under normal circumstances.

My dealer tells me that the problem here is that the VAT deal has now ended for diesels so the order is 'price protected'. If he amends the order the protection will be lost.

If it was a petrol (like AjH's one) then it would be no problem I think as they are still included in the VAT free offer. (Although there has been a price rise since then so if AjH is still getting his at the 2010 price then I've got a glimmer of hope......) Out of interest AjH, I see you're in Edinburgh- what dealer are you using?

I fear that Wardy is correct and it's something to do with an awkward ordering system which won't let them do something which should be straight-forward.

I do have some updates on the situation though- I called Skoda customer services and the lady there informed me that the 'price-protection' would not be affected by ammending the order so I should contact my dealer again and ask him to ring them. I've done that and I'm waiting on him getting back to me. Will probably be Monday before he gets back to me as he is quite busy today apparently.

I'd like to stress that I'm not suspecting my dealer of playing the 'can't be bothered card'. I've been very impressed with all the dealings I've had with my particular salesman so far. As Slimboyfat said, it's actually a very easy thing to do under normal circumstances. I'm just hoping that as it's an unusual situation (the price of a car jumping up by £4500 in the space of a couple of weeks doesn't happen very often) no-one is quite sure on exactly how it works and that after clarifying everything with Skoda UK we may have a way forward.

I'll keep you updated

Think your point about how well people know the system is very valid. It's knowing for certain what they can and can't do - without causing fairly horrific financial implications in this instance! So maybe a mixture of that, combined with 'can't be bothered' is at play here :smirk:

Little update for you all- ammending an order when the car is 'price-protected' can be done!

My dealer called this morning to say that he'd been in contact with Skoda UK and they can indeed add the extra options that I wanted.

It doesn't sound as if it is straight-forward though, instead of doing it himself he has to e-mail someone at Skoda and get them to do it in order to keep the VAT free price.

Still, I'm a happy bunny, and even more impressed at my salesman for actually taking the time to find out for himself even after a colleague told him it wasn't possible.

Nice one Stevo :) Hope life is treating you well since we last spoke at Knockhill all those years ago!

You won't be disappointed with the VRS. We picked ours up weekend before last at it's great!

Hey Phil, it's funny how you keep bumping into the same people on different forums eh!? :giggle: Must have been about 7 years since I last saw you though- good to see you still have the Anni. Mine went at the end of 2007- still think it was a fantastic car.

Glad to hear you're enjoying your Octavia - can't wait to get ours although it'll be at least 6 months by the sounds of it!
