Suitable sealer

Featured Replies

Hi. I found out the other day that my sunroof leaks (wet backside). After much searching and a totally wrong seal from the dealer i am going to cable tie the roof shut and seal the gap round the glass. Can any one recommend which type of sealer is best for this application. Many thanks Marty

Clear the drains if it has them first, or it just won't seal well enough to stop the leaks. In which case that may be all it needs. Also check that it can't be adjusted down tighter onto the inside seal.

If you're going ahead with this idea, use a clear mastic on the inner seal with the roof open, and then close it, and run another bead round the inside edge.

You should have gone to a sunroof specialist, not the main dealer. If its a 'factory fit' pop up, it is more than likely a Hollandia 100, which is a product now marketed by Webasto, who have quite a few outlets in this country.

There is a search box on the right, where you can search for your nearest agent. Our Magic is going in next week to our local Webasto agent to be checked over, as it has a slight leak.

AFAIK there are no drains on (original) Felicia sunroofs - mine certainly doesn't have any and the parts diagrams show no provision for them. On mine the water gets in under the bottom of the rubber seal at the front corners where it had lifted out of the frame and broken the original mastic bead underneath - looking at the angles involved I suspect the action of opening and closing the sunroof is what eventually pulls the seal out of place here.

Marty: Out of interest, what is the difference between the seal from the dealer and the one you needed?

The one fitted to my car is a Velm Turnov type VS-3.

RobinSLXi. The seal the Dealer supplied is completely different and wont even sit in the channel in the upper frame. It has a different cross section and is too flexible.

the usual leak is as said between the frame and the roof panel, just remove the trim from round the inside and undo all the screws that hold the sunroof in, remove it , clean it , nice bead of mastic around it and refit it really is as easy as that most times (but a job i hate) unless you have some odd sunroof that was retro fitted else where.

I used a roof and gutter sealer when I did one on a Clio. Stuff never quite goes off, so stays reasonably flexable.

When I had one I cleaned up the seal, put silicone grease on it, and it never leaked again - plus I could still open it.

Roof and gutter sealant would be a great thing to use though if above does not work.

Well ive cleaned and greased the seal and secured the roof shut so will see what happens next time it rains. Also got a tube of black mastic on standby incase. Thanks all

My seats are dirty, because my sunroof leaks, I used about 6 wet wipes to clean all the gunk out, and it has worked a treat, I also found a PDF for the parts Hollandia 100 is the factory fitted felicia sunroof if you need any bits.http://www.webasto.co.uk/home/graphics/Webasto_UK_Aftermarket_Sunroof_Price_List_-_April_2010.pdf

Interesting, thanks for that. It would seem that I have the wrong sunroof, as my hinges and handle aren't the same as those shown in either Hollandia 100 parts diagram, and I don't recall the profile of my seal looking like the one shown either.

There were 2 types of Hollandia sunroofs fitted to Felicias. Some had a dial to open (my Mk1 Felly GLX had that type)
