Air Flow Flap Positioning Motor (V71)

Featured Replies

I replaced mine today. It's not as bad a job as I was expecting. It is a bit awkward because of its location, but the way to do it is as follows:

Remove glove box.

Remove the two screws underneath the fan motor and drop the fan out.

Remove the kick-panel trim.

Disconnect the plug on the motor, and the plug on the temperature sensor next to it. Move the harness out of the way.

Remove the plastic link that moves the upper flap. This is visible and gently lever it off using a long thin screwdriver.

Remove the single retaining screw on the underside of the flap motor. You will need a 6mm socket.

Using a long thin screwdriver prise the motor off the lower flap spindle and remove the motor.

The new motor comes in the 'Recirc' position, so hold the flap in this position when you line it up with the spindle.

Reassembly is the reverse of removal.

The tools you will need are:

T20 torx for the glove box.

6mm socket for the fan motor and flap motor.

Long thin screwdriver.

Pozi screwdriver for the kick-panel.

Dentist type mirror.

Light.

Once the new motor is in place you will need to first test it to make sure it moves properly from 'Fresh' to 'Recirc' and back. You will then need VCDS to go to 'Basic Settings' so the new motor can learn the positions.

How much did it cost the motor?

Best regards.

Adi.

I paid £93 including VAT. That was from TPS. The job took me about an hour to do, and my Climatronic system now works perfectly so I'm really pleased.
