Oil Warning LIght on Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Today my check oil level light has come on. Travelled down to crewe nothing then on the way back as I turned the ignition it flashed up check oil level and would then flash intermittently probably around every 20 minutes. I have heard on here that the TSI engines do use a lot of oil but surely it shouldn't be happening on a car that's only done 2400 miles! Question is should I ring the dealers or top the oil up, really needed the car tomorrow?

I am coming from an RX8 and it uses a lot of oil - about 1 litre for every 1200 miles.

Its not uncommon that new engines, especially the vRS unit which has a super and turbo charger on it will burn some oil while it runs it. I would suggest you stop it and top up immediately. If the oil light is coming on then it needs between 1/2 and 1 1/2 litres to fill it up. (please check the hand book for exact amounts first - dont go on my say so). I suggest at minimum you put in 1/2 litre and see how you go.

Also make sure you use the correct oil, I have bought some Castrol Edge 5w 30 off oilman on this forum but this link from Oilman shows whats works with the 1.4 TSi Unit if you cant get Castrol

I would not drive it much without topping up a bit, low oil in any engine can cause damage.

Hope this helps.

Had almost exactly the same issue mate and I even made a thread about it. I used roughly a litre of Castrol 5w30 and that filled it back up the maximum marker.

I believe it says in the manual that the car may use more oil than usual in the first thousand miles. From posts on these forums, that seems to be the case. It's nothing to worry about as the manual does say this will happen and others haven't experienced any future problems (myself included).

Topping the oil up is fairly easy as well. I wasn't sure at first but it's actually very easy.

You got to 2400 miles from new without needing a top up, you did well there. Like the other posters have said your car will use oil for the first few thousand miles but should settle down. Keep a regular check on it if I were you and give her some welly to help the bedding in process.

Thanks guys got the 5w30 oil today and everything is back to normal. Interesting about the RX8 my mate is getting one so will pass the info on cheers.

Glad you have topped it up.

Tell your mate the RX8 is a great car, but they need looking after and if he is going to buy one make sure a Mazda dealer does a Hot Compression test prior to purchase as if they dont get looked after they have a percentage chance of the engine failing. Oil useage is around 1 litre per 1200 miles and general MPG is around 20 MPG. Its thirsty !

However its a great car, glad I have had the chance to own one. If it was not for a second child coming along i would have kept it a bit longer :)
