Low engine speed rattle CR140

Featured Replies

Elsie has developed a low speed rattle, at just above idle, which was happening before the remap, and also she sounds as if there is something loose in the engine bay, most noticeable on cold starts. They may of course be related.

Puzzled.

Will have to book into Allams to get her sorted.

Hopefully just a pipe or something similar reverberating Mike, these squeaks, rattles etc tend to take a few hundred miles to appear, certainly in my experience. In fact if you look back to a recent thread re something similar on a 1.2 there is a response pointing to a pipe not quite secured properly. Obviously a different engine but no doubt you're suffering something similar. In fact I'm sure TP had something like this also on Pat 1? (I was looking up something obscure recently and TP's post came up back from December 2009!)

Pat 1 never reached me (wrong spec) :giggle: last I knew she's with Yonderend in Scotland :) Pat 2 had an apatite for rattling, not helped by the shocking road surfaces around here (now starting to effect the Fabia II  ) but that appeared to be mainly dash and trim related issues (later door seals).

Engine bay wise I do vaguely remember having some issue when new but it sort of disappeared after a few hundred miles. Only other thing was the N75 valve not being fitted to it's bracket but that was not causing any noise.

Regards,

TP

What sort of 'rattle'? Metallic or plastic?

Is the engine cover secure? This has been an issue in the past; it kept working loose on the PD170 engine in my Octavia.

I would say metallic. it occurs between 1100 & 1400rpm, maybe even narrower band.

The cold rattle is only noticeable at start up on idle.

Mike

I would suggest checking the engine mounts.

Could it be possible they're all there in their proper tightly held positions?

Good luck. I doubt it has anything to do with the remap.

I'm going to let the experts sort Elsie out.

Snap. The expert (James) was already in mine and neither of us could locate where this sound comes from... He said I must wait for summer to see if it still continues. Irritates the hell out of me. It sort of gurgles and makes a shuddering noise on low throttle or when you lift off the throttle to come to a stop at a junction.

I'd be interested to get into yours and see if it is in fact the same noise...

Now that IS very interesting. Both DSGs having the same gurgle... Well perhaps the same. We see the 30th. Where is this RR day please? I know you posted a link somewhere else but I can't remember where.
