Has anyone upgraded Elegance wood trim

Featured Replies

Just wondering. I think the wood trim looks nice but wonder if I could replace with something a little less 'mature'. I do like the stately look and feel of the car, but wonder if upgrading the trim to something more modern, like black or grey?

Has anyone done this and if so how, where and cost? Big job? I see trim on Fleabay that sticks to existing, can we do better than that or has anyone any experience?

Thoughts and don't hold back if you think I'm nuts?

A lot of wood trim in my experience is a razor thin laminate on aluminum backing. You can rub this off with fine sandpaper and polish it to a mirror finish (a lot of people do this with the Net-Optic trim in B5.5 Passats) so this is something you could look into :)

Isn't the "wood" just a plastic trim that's never seen actual wood?

When I had my MKI there were at least a couple of us that would of been prepared to swap the silver trim found on the lower spec cars for the 'wood' trim, maybe a 'wanted to swap' advert would be a good place to start?

Before I add the advert. Is the lower spec trim all compatible? Meaning, does the door and gear lever trim come off to swap and does the climate trim fit?

Appreciate the input.

Yes everything can be swapped over, the only things you will need to make sure is the donor car has climate control (so from a comfort spec car) the doors and gear stick trim etc are identical.

If you do not manage to find someone willing to swap, then the next best option would be wrap your existing trim with 3M vinyl, the finish can look excellent - depending on you skill levels and the time taken.

Wood trim is certainly a very personal thing and personally I like (I even paid EXTRA for it on my current car!) so therefore I agree ... you must be nuts! :giggle:

Doing the door trim could be interesting, if its anything like the mk2 superb then the trim is actually part of the door card, and you would need to destroy the door card to get it out.

I prefer the wood in the MK2, it gives the car a more luxury/prestige feel. Yes its all plastic wood, but who cares.

I'm a little late here with this response as Gizmo I think has given you enough information but this is a mod I did on my Superb as soon as I had it, wood or so called wood all over the shop and it was the first thing to go, all the trim can be replace, gear stick, stereo surround and all the trims on the doors...........

I am afraid that I didn't compile a guide for this but I am much happier with the trim I have now.......... :p

Wood is wood and I guess you either love or hate it, marmite type thing for me but I know what your saying Manny, in this instance you can remove the door cards annd get off the 'rivet' type fixings on such trim to allow them to be replaced easily................
