Hi all, I want to get a new panel filter for the vRS. I want one that gives alot more engine sound but at the same time doesn't sound too much like a boy racer chav mobile.

Out of the three common ones everyone goes for, which one gives the best noise/power?

i'd recommend k&n, but you wont see any more noise increase with a panel filter, unless like some of us have done you drill the airbox. not as noisy as a CAI but gives a noticeable improvement over standard

Green and K&N are practically the same so you will not go wrong with either one.

Better than pipercross IMO.

But as stated you will only get marginal noise from any of those.

I'd recommend save your money and replace the vag filter every year if you are worried about power levels - yet to see a proven back to back dyno run with an oe versus aftermarket filter that shows tangible benefits

plus these aftermarket filters DO NOT filter to the same levels as the oe ones- your engine, you pays yer money and take yer chance!

If I drill the airbox and add the extraction pipe to the box will that create a better combination?

if you fit the cold air feed then yes as it's getting a direct feed of cold air from the bumper straight into the airbox

K&N or Green, prefer cotton filters to foam ones, voted K&N only because i've used them on last 4 cars i've had.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

What about Jetex? there is one in this 51 plate vRS I have now and its good, on my other vRS I have the ebay CAI with both PX and now the K&N and the PX is crap in comparrison.

Ive put a K&N panel filter in my GF's Coupe and that seems to be good too.

Ok people, I've a question for all you cotton gauze fans:-

Which major (50_000+ vehicles per year) manufacturer uses cotton gauze filters? There are several who use foam filters.
