I had my suspension bushes replaced back in december, which messed up the tracking. I got this corrected at the different garage and the mechanic said I should come back in a few weeks to make sure everything has settled ok.

but I haven't had a chance to do this yet.

It's all been fine up until today when I noticed a kind of metal on metal knocking sound coming from the front near side wheel. I say metal on metal, it sounds a bit like theres a couple of wine bottles in the passenger footwell which are knocking together. (There aren't :p )

It's only when I got over bumps in the road and these vicious speed bumps into the car park at work. I always take these really slowly, around 10mph, but I reckon its these which have messed something up/disturbed the settlng bushes.

I jacked the car up to see if there was any obvious play/movement in the wheel and it seems ok. I also pushed down on the wheel when off the jack to see if there was any obvious play in the suspension, which there wasn't.

Driving is fine, as is the tracking, but I don't want this to get worse. Any ideas? Obviously I will be down to a garage at some point this weekend or sooner if needs be.

I have exactly the same problem at the moment. It started when the wife drove over a pohole and said she heard a loud bang. First the garage said it was the bush - so I had the whole wishbone replaced, only to find the sound continued. On inspection found that the bearing that normally sits above the spring - had popped out and knocks against the spring when you go over bumps. I bought a new bearing and decided to replace it myself, only to discover that the top of the spring must have sheared off, which is why the bearing dropped down.

I missed a set of VRS springs so I bought some VW Polo springs, which should fit the fabia - I hope to receive the springs by the weekend so that I can change the front ones over - I'll change both so that the suspension on both sides are the same.

By the way, mines a 1.2l 2005 also nr side front - jack uo the car and have a look
