Touch Screen / Display Not working

Featured Replies

We had our Skoda Superb serviced last week and cambelt changed.

after 3-4 days the touch-screen has stopped working therefore we cannot display the Sat Nav, listen to the radio etc etc.

The car went to Station Garage, Ewhurst today and from what my dad said to me this evening after talking to them that the screen is not covered under warranty and it needs a new unit.

We have 4 of these vehicles (3 from Station Garage) and will need to talk to Skoda direct I think regarding this or can anyone help ???

I believe these cars come with 3 years/100,000 mile warranty ???

I have just had a whole gearbox re-build from VW for a transporter and that was 1 week out of warranty. I hope Skoda will want to keep their loyal customer and don't present any problems.

Could the touch-screen problem be something common ? it comes on (shows Skoda logo) but then nothing ?

Please can anyone help ?

In the UK it's 3 years / 60,000 miles.

It may be some other fault with the unit rather than the touch screen function if you only get as far as the splash screen. It may be worth doing some research in the ICE section of this forum for advice. Skoda only supply whole units not spares for the Columbus. My experience of their Customer Service' department when trying to get mine fixed was very poor. Try to get it replaced under warranty or it could be a world of pain. See thread http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/177804-columbus-replacement-26k/. I eventually got a new unit from Skoda for about £1.6K (insurance paid most of that) bought as an accessory NOT as a spare (£2.6K for that). Alternatively second hand units are sold on e-bay for about £500, but I have no knowledge of these.

How old is the car and what mileage has it done?

The warranty is unlimited mileage for the first 2 years then 60,000/3 years whichever comes first.

A very long shot but have you tried a forced reboot? Press both the left and right ( < > ) buttons on the top left of the unit along with the voice prompt (i) button on the top right for a few seconds, just in case it isn't rebooting on it's own correctly. Failing that, a firmware reload might wake it up a little. Worst case scenario is a hardware problem with something like the hard disk.

Excellent. If it happens to me again I'll drive the 100 miles or so to Birmingham. My local Skoda dealer just kept saying £2.6K, as did Skoda's own Customer Service. I had to get them to confirm the £1.6K 'bargain' price. Supply was not a problem though, a couple of days. As far as I know new units are only supplied by VAG/Skoda, and their dealers don't do any fixing beyond unit swaps.

I'd doubt any main dealer will be capable of any kind of Columbus repair bar a firmware update. It'll be a swap and nothing else.

Cheers guys for your advice, I will have to stay off the Porker forum and stay on this as it will save me some money.

I will phone tomorrow them later for a chat.

The car has done 80,000 + and is a 58 plate.

Hopefully that's poker not porker forum - it's not a mistake you'd make twice!

Good luck with the Columbus.

:giggle:

if the columbus is stuck on the splash screen, that usually means the HDD has failed. The stereo should be swapped with no problem,as its covered under the main warranty.
