1.9 AEF engine timing guide

Featured Replies

Hi guys, new to the site, sorry my first post is a question but i hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Oh and i have used the search, for the last 20 mins but found nothing aside from garage retrogradations.

I have a skoda pickup and it doesnt start, if i take it for a tow then it will run but its very sluggish and doesnt respond very well to throttle.

We have come to the conclusion that the timing is out and looking at the marks on the crank (plug in the box) camshaft and the pin in the pump it deffo looks a bit off but i was just wondering if anyone had a guide i could run through to check and possibly fix the timing so i know its ok and can rule it out.

Any help is hugely appreciated

Regards

Ross

can you see the mark on the flywheel when the timing pin is in the pump.? By the way the timing mark is tiny more like a scratch and is between the 2 large slots in the flywheel that usually get mistaken for timing marks.

defo has DIESEL in it yea as it sounds like it may have petrol in (check recipts and give the fuel filler a sniff)

Ah nice, we had just assumed that the slot on the flywheel was the timing mark, good info there, much appreciated.

Yeh it deffo has diesel in it, we can get it to run with a tow bump start, its just really unresponsive and will not start from the key.

Cheers for the info mate, much appreciated.

For anyone else interested you can find all the timing procedures etc in a haynes manual for a 6n model polo, they use the same AEF 1.9D engine as the skodas
