central locking woes

Featured Replies

hi all, any ideas would be greatly appreciated..

my central locking on my octy mk1 19tdi has no life in it at all.. ive replaced 1 knackered n/s/r latch. ive replaced the convenience unit with a known good one, checked all connections, fuses. tested continuity between window motors to latch - all good...

all windows work up and down, ive got the flashing led on drivers lock. when holding key fully each way in lock, all windows go down/up.. when i press the lock button on door control (by window switches) i get a noise 'click' noise from convenience unit.. and when i open doors i get all the hazards going for 30 seconds or so.. but no life in any of the central locking door units.. im at my wits end with it.. :'(

any ideas would be really appreciated..

have you checked the loom by the "A" post? Also have you checked for water in any of the connections?

yeh- ive checked the connectors in a post- all ok, gave them a soaking with wd40.. no water ingress.. at my wits end with it.. :'( is there a relay or something to provide 'main' power to individual door units? (ive got the system layout on elsawin- but cant find a wiring diagram :( )

might not help, but my mate had a rover and some doors would lock and some close. he googled about the key fob and it told him something like press open 5 times close 7 times open 6 times and all was good. dont hate me if you cant find anything about resetting key fob.

Do you have a key on the boot or passenger side?

If so what happens when you unlock the car with the key in one of those locks?

have a key for boot (no passenger side) nothing happens when locked/unlocked- to open boot ive got to turn key anti clockwise and operate boot release.. :( just seems no life in system.. although all windows operate, but mirrors and c/l not working at all :(

There are 2 power supplies to each door. They are fed via fuses F37 and F38. At any one of the door control units (box attached to windows motor), check you have 12V at both pins 19 and 20 (Red/Yellow and Red/Brown wires). Just because the fuses are OK doesn't mean that there isn't a problem with the loom (or even the fuseholder).

i'll check pins 19 and 20 tommorrow (daylight) :) cheers :)

I've heard of people having a screen wash leak above the cd changer which has caused these sort of issues. Worth checking.

screenwash shouldnt be an issue? - i dont have rear wiper/ cd changer....

interesting stuff- ive got 12v through pin 20 (red/brown) and 0v through pin 19 (yellow/red) this increases to 0.14v when the ignition is switched on.. also fuse 38- permenent 12v, but fuse 37- only 12v when ignition on??

do i need to get perment 12v to pin 19?

where are all the yellow/red wires fed from?- just put 12v red/yellow to o/s/f door and o/sr door and fuel flap- and central locking works on these 3.. if i could find the feed to all or the junction for all it would save me having to tap in to them.. other than that i can feed into n/s/f connector and find loom to rear?..

big thanks to rwbaldwin for the pointer in the right direction :)- top marks to that man

The Red/Yellow wires are fed from fuse F38. If the fuse is good, drop the fusebox down into the driver footwell and take a look inside. Follow the wire up the loom until it gets to the junction point.

Whatever you do, make sure you have a 10A fuse in the circuit.

yeh- looks like there must be a break in the loom somewhere- theres no continuity between fuse 38 and any of the red/yellow wiring in the a pilar connectors.. im gonna trace it back tommorrow and see if i can find the break- other than that i may run a new section from fuse 38 to the junction (when i find the junction)

big thanks for the heads up :)

all fixed!!! :):)

traced fault to junction in n/s/f footwell- all the red/yellow wires connect into a juction on n/s/f inner sill- mine was water logged and badly corroded- there must have been a massive resistance as before junction block i had 12v after 0.14v.. cut juction block off, cut back and resoldered all wires- central locking works a treat now :) fault looks like it was caused by a leaking door membrane allowing water into n/s footwell..

thanks to rwbaldwin for the heads up

does anyone know how to reprogram the remote key? do i need vag com and more than 1 key? :S

does anyone know how to reprogram the remote key? do i need vag com and more than 1 key? :S

Skoda

Remote Control Programming (1997 ON)

1. Switch Ignition ON and leave the key in the ignition.

2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using a second key.

3. Using the remote control press the Unlock button once, and the horn will sound once.

4. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once to activate the coding procedure. The remote control will now be programmed.

NOTE : When performing programming on additional remotes the procedure is the same, except you press the unlock button 2, 3 or 4 times for the different remote.

For example : If programming 2 remotes press the unlock button twice with a 1 second interval between each press, repeat for 3 and 4 remotes.

5. Switch Ignition OFF.

6. Remove key from ignition and check for operation.

7. The coding procedure can be repeated up to 4 times for additional remotes.

8. The ignition must be switched OFF between programming each remote control.

Remote Control Erasing (1997 ON)

1. Switch Ignition ON and leave the key in the ignition.

2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using a second key.

3. Press the remote control unlock button 5 times in 1 second intervals. A short horn will sound.

4. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once to activate memory erase.

5. Switch ignition OFF, all remotes are now erased.
