Good to be here. I recently got a Octy vRS which was launched in India a couple of months back. It's been 'detuned' to 150bhp to take care of local fuel requirements. Skoda India still seem to be having teething problems with the car and i have found briskoda a great place.

Hello and Welcome:D

Hey thanks Alex !

Skoda has just about 15,000 customers (across all Octavia models - 90% of which are the 1.9 TDI) in India and hence the community is not so large. The Fabia is due for launch later this year.

Welcome to Briskoda, Viky. What is the highest octane rating fuel generally available in India?

Welcome Viky - is that short for Vikram? What part of India are you from, and are there places you can take your vRS and stretch its legs?

Until recently we had only 93 Octane. But they have recently launched 97 Octane in some cities.

The Skoda manual states in bold letters that no additives should be added to the fuel and normal unleaded petrol should be used- however, the 97 octane we get comes premixed with additives. So i guess I'll have to skip it.

Nick you are right. Have you been to India ?

I'm from Mumbai (Bombay). Frankly the vRS is overkill for this city even with 150bhp. But we have a great drive on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. A pity that many Indian cars still come with tubed tires and tyre bursts on this Expressway are very common.

Nope, never been to India. But from what I've seen of the roads (only on the TV, sorry :o ) I did wonder where you would get to have a good blast in your Octy.

I don't see why you should have to skip the 97 octane. I would write / email to the oil company supplying it and ask. I expect they will say it's perfectly safe and indeed beneficial to use. Are there lots of VW owners in India? - ask them if they're using it.....

Hello Viky,

I've see the road in india on TV too, and I have to say they look really scary! Good to see you have a octi though!

Is the Rover Montego still being made over there albeit under licence (just cant remember what it is called in India)

Hi Mike,

The Rover was discontinued many years ago (can't remember the year). It was one of those launches which went wrong.

The Skoda manual states in bold letters that no additives should be added to the fuel and normal unleaded petrol should be used- however, the 97 octane we get comes premixed with additives. So i guess I'll have to skip it.
The European model Octavia also has the same warning in the Manual. But that doesn't mean that you cannot use a higher octane fuel from a pump, but rather that you shouldn't put any extra additives in the fuel. The Manual also says that fuels with a higher octane number than specified can be used without restrictions. However that this does not offer any advantages in respect of engine output and fuel consumption. Hope that helps. :)
