Displaying KPH

Featured Replies

Hi All, We are going over to the continent in July with the Scout, I know its KPH is displayed right at the bottom of the standard display but how can I display it bigger so I can actually see it while driving ? I find it stupid not to have it painted just under the MPH figs on the normal dial and keep the odometer displayed, what do other people think ? cheers - Stuart

I found a bit annoying at first, and also the speedo only showing the even numbers, but actually now I'm used to it I don't really mind it at all. Not ever had to worry about looking at kph on a digital display though as not taken the car abroad yet. No idea how/if you can make the kph bigger though - don't suppose it is possible without reprogramming the display. I've not ever really thought it was that small!

EDIT: sorry just realised that was actually a midly useless reply! Apologies for that! ;)

Just goes to show that the Moran who designed the speedo graphics, for some of the models in the octavia range, had no mind or fore thought.

They probably lived on the continent and would not have to live with their incompetence.

However, the positive side to this is that the coding probably exists within the ECU, to modify the display, to what a lot of members have been asking for some time.

There must be some bright spark out there who can hack the ECU and and restore some normality to the confusion.

Mine too. However I've also got a Garmin Sat Nav, so I just changed this to display kph and used that as a speedometer when I spent two weeks in France earlier this year.

I admit this isn't very helpful if you haven't got a Sat Nav...

Have a look at this thread on your very own Octavia forum:

You need a VCDS and change the car to "Australia" and not Saudi as stated (See this thread). Job done.

Do you still only get a fine when speeding abroad, or have they "joined up" the points system yet with our neighbouring euros? If not then just guesstimate your speed.

If you're really worried and have no sat nav, just mark off 30/50/60/80/110 and 130 kmh on your speedo with a white board marker pen (at 19/31/37/50/68 and 81mph).

There's no penalty sharing across EU at the moment so you can't get points added to your UK license although you can potentially get a hefty fine. I do find it odd they removed the kph markings which I've never had an issue with on any car and worked well when needed.
