Hi folks ive got a octavia sdi combi ,its started to make a strange noise around the pulley area, sounds like a canary, cheeping away only on tick over,ive sprayed the area around the belt adjuster and the other pulleys , it stopped for a short time then started again, any ideas whats going on here? is it terminal? many thanks in advance.

No air con on this model, sounds like a dry bearing on a pulley, but dont know what lives in that area,, thanks

Would be worth checking out the alternator pulley so see if its seized or not.

With the belt on very carefully insert a small screw driver into the alternator itself and try to turn the fan blades, they should go one way but not the other, if they wont turn either way te pulley is seized.
