LED side lights with Xenons

Featured Replies

Greetings! just got my 2006 vrs and it has xenons which I really like, but with the yellow side lights on I think it spoils the look, so I was just going to pop in some white LED bulbs to balance the colour, the only problem is they don't work?

Popped the lights out last night and dropped the LED's in, they worked for 2 sec's and went off, I then tried a second set of LED's and got the same! tried the old yellow bulbs back in and all OK?

Sorry if this have been covered many times before but any ideas please?

Cheers

Chris.

This seems to be a problem many others have had, do you know if they CANbus friendly? If not then this is the problem, my recommendation would be to PM Hauptmann as he has supplied a number of members with CANbus friendly LED sidelights, myself included, not only do they work perfectly, but they are also the whitest I have seen.

Edit: Further information here

Just did same with mine did u get sorted ?

What size are the fittings on the sidelights on the xenons?

I see in ETKA they are different bulbs compared to halogen main beam lights.

I sent Hauptmann a message and he is sending me some can-bus friendly LED's that other guys on here have tried and tested.

They look the same as normal, just little pop fit bulbs, same as was in my mrk1

When I changed mine before the OEM sidelight bulbs were blue (like the phillips ones), maybe thats the difference?

Yeah they are listed in ETKA as blue ones but apparently are white when on. Pics on google show them to be a shade of blue too.

Yea, thats correct. I hadn't a clue they were blue until I went to change them (although changed them anyway as I had a free new set).

The original bulbs had a blue coating on them but were yellow when on, the new LED's are nearly a perfect match with my xenonsemoticon-0148-yes.gif they look spot on!

Well I got a set of LED's for the sidelights from Hauptmann but I'v only just noticed that the existing (blue tint) ones don't come on anyway. I've got a FL Vrs with Xenons and DRL's and whatever I do, I cannot get the sidelights to come on. It seems that the DRL's have taken their place, confirmed by the fact that when you use the indicator stalk to activate parking lights on one side, the DRL on that side operates instead of a side light. So, the question is - how to activate the side lights .... or is there any point ?
