oem sat nav for mk 1 fabia vrs

Featured Replies

I'm looking into options for the hu in my furby.

the options are a new single din hu with amp, sub and front speaker set up with any other bits you may need (can't you just tell i'm new to this!!), or the other option is putting in a double din sat nav system and leaving the speakers etc as they are.

now if i go with the latter, i would prefer an oem system but yet to find any posts or threads with people putting in an oem unit in a mk 1 fabia vrs.

is this at all possible? what little i do think i know is there maybe some sort of issue or work needed with the can bus, is this right?!?

i do think the easier option would be to install a non-standard double din unit but for me, it would look better oem.

any ideas or links to some threads or posts i can take a look at?

many thanks in advance

Jay

While not Fabia this should give enough info. Does it take the MFD1?

Also search VWNavi.com

You'd need to be fairly set on OEM to get an MFD1 these days. It's a perfectly adequate stereo but it's a truly shocking navigation unit. Starting with the VERY poor graphics, clumsy destination entry, 4-digit postcode search and ending with the outrageously expensive maps you have a mid-1990's navigation unit in the second decade of the 21st century and it looks VERY old indeed.

I swapped mine for a Kenwood DNX7240BT and I can't think of anything that's not MUCH better. Pioneer make good navigation units as well and there is a Chinese clone unit called Zenec that looks like the MFD1 but is modern inside and will run TomTom or iGo.

The most common ones are for the Octy II, but you want the one designed to go into a Mk IV Golf as it's the same shape and turn the lights green. They make them in several different flavours. They are all the same basic unit, just different fronts.
