Kms per hour on the vRS maxi-dot

Featured Replies

As said before I picked up my new vRS yesterday.

I assumed that the digital read out on the maxi-dot of the car's speed in kms per hour could be changed to miles per hour. Spent some time with the handbook which is quite ambiguous over the matter.

Checked today with the dealer who says it can't be changed as it's EU law to have it as it is as the car's ordinary speedo is only marked in mph.

Words fail me.

That's very true I'm afraid. All vehicles in the UK must be clearly marked for both mph and kph otherwise it's both illegal and an MOT failure.

I don't ever remember seeing mph markings on cars in the EU though, only kph?

The setting cannot be altered, you have to as mentioned by the previous poster have both KPH/MPH displayed, since the speedo has no KPH on it like older ones its displayed on the maxidot instead.

The same issue is posted regularly in the Yeti, Superb2, Octavia2 forums since they are all the same.

Just go into setup and units and its in there. If you change to mpg instead of l/100km it changes all the digital readouts to miles ie trip and odometer.

US here in the UK have the option disabled, it does not appear in the units menu over here.

I can confirm it is exactly the same on my MK6 Golf. My Dad has a 2010 A3 Sportback with DIS and he is able to get a large MPH speedo up on his coputer, however the Audi stil has both MPH and KMH markings on the speedo.

Bit of a bummer as I would like a larger digital MPH speedo, given that the golfs is calibrated strangely (10mph segments until 80 then 20mph segments after) and can at times be difficult to read. I barely ever go abroad in my car so dont see why having to have KMH is such an issue, we sure as hell dont need it over here. I wonder whether it would be possible to add the functionality the DIY way using VAG-COM??

Sorry lads did it on mine and it's way easier to work out mpg etc instead of the crappy l/100km stuff. Maybe someone with vagcom can activate it for ye?
