grrr - engine management light back on

Featured Replies

Random flashing lights seem to be part of the joy of owning a little 1.4 mpi

First time the engine management light came on I started rooting around through the archieve came across some useful suggestions that led me to change the coolant temp sensor.

I decided to do the thermostat while i was about it - just as well because that was shot anyway.

Flushed the engine and rad replaced the coolant - bled the system and JOY no light on the dash.

Until now - the litter buggers back on again.

Any suggestions where to go next - EGR valve perhaps?

I have seen suggestions to a head gasket problem - yikes!

Cheers

Neil

Get the fault code read.

You're firing blindly otherwise.

If you're local I can read the fault code for you.

I'd say MAP next, but it's worth getting it checked - one of these will do on the MPi (it's what I use on my wife's Comfy most of the time!)

I doubt HGF, but a guide on eBay you can follow that should set your mind at rest! (sorry about it all being in CAPS - I didn't write it!)

Thanks fro the offer CD-vrs Im in Somerset so it probably makes sense to get a reader of my own.

So are OBD2 codes generic across any car - I'd seen some code readers that were recommended for VAG/Skoda vehicles?

thanks

Neil

Don't forget that full VCDS won't work with an aftermarket cable, if that's what you were suggesting...

Its not a genuine copy I have, just a better version that the one supplied in the eBay link.

Does your U380 read the errors correctly? Mine doesn't work on my 07 Fabia vRS. Had to buy a vagcom lead to read the P0671 error.

I have a u480 actually, but that shouldn't matter as the Mk1 Fabia doesn't use CANBUS. And, yes, it diagnosed my faulty CTS and my wife's faulty MAP correctly. And a friend's faulty coilpack!
