How to unlock door in "safe" mode

Featured Replies

Well basically my front passenger door lock has gone into "safe" mode (think thats the right term), I have a new lock mechanism on its way however I cant open the door to get the interior trim off, does anyone have any ideas how to get the trim off or how to unlock the door, I read somewhere that VAGCOM brings up an error code which im guessing could also unlock the door. I could be completely wrong with this but I cant think of any other options.

Any suggestions??

Hi I have exactly the same problem what fix did you do? I'm stuck with a locked passenger door. I see there are lots of mechanisms available on ebay, did you buy new or get a used one?

You could pull the little surround off that's round the chrome lock pin which should give you room to pull the pin up and open the door

If it's deadlocked you can't pull up the pin, that's kinda the point.

Sadly the only way unless your lucky that it decides to release is to get the door trim off and remove the carrier to access the lock unit itself and release it manually from inside.

I managed to unlock it by removing the trim from the inside, then removing the ancilleries carrier, once the carrier is off I used a flat headed screw driver to reset the lock. Theres a brass arm thats connected to the internal door release cable which you lift to unlock. I had already bought a used lock off ebay by this point so just replaced it.

Hope this helps

This normally happens when the cable in between the outer handle and the lock is over tight and the lever doesn't have enough clearance to release fully.

Thanks Tech1e and Mike,

I shall attack the door card and carrier in due course, it's been really temperamental for a while now; not unlocking on the second press- having to press again or lock and unlock from the drivers switch. Then its not been locking with the others and I've been having to push the pin down manually.

Tech1e, considering it's been playing up for a while think I'll buy a new Mechanism instead of loosening the cable, what do you think?

Thanks again for all the advice this forum really is friendly and helpful.
