Giving thought to an Amp.

Featured Replies

I wouldn't say that I'd normally buy an amp.

The 1st owner had what I'm guessing was a powerful HU in though, as he also upgraded all the speakers.

In the front are the Focal components that are specifically for shallow installs. and until the lifter failed the carriers had all been sound deadened.

The Focals sound absolutely rubbish, worse than I remember my OEM setup sounding in my previous Elegance Fabia. There not dead, just.. I dunno.. you can really hear that the Amp in the symphony is struggling to get the juice into them to make them sound solid. The bass is there but it's fuzzy sounding.

I have a hands free kit plumbed into the Symphony, as well as the OEM changer. When I bought the parts to install the phone kit I also bought enough connections to make up an AMP feed. (Good old VAGparts, miss that place).

So, I'm getting closer and closer ot picking up an amp from eBay and hooking it up, maybe even only on the fronts as the rears are just the Blaupunkt ones that everyone bought recently.

The Question.

But where should I put it? No point in running it to the boot..... would it go under the drivers seat or will the height adjustment cause issues.. Will the Changer on the passenger side cause the same issues?

I've managed to squeeze a Blaupunkt amp and sub under the passenger seat.

Had to cut and re-weld the bar which controls the seat forward and back to make space but it fits..

Where there's a will there's a way :)

The JL Audio XD series of amps are incredibly small and sound good. I have one and I think I might just put it in the glove compartment or behind the dash.

I have a Genesis Profile 2 under my passenger seat along with the CD changer.

That's a pretty good 75 watt amp. Wish I'd gone for bigger though. A 2x150 would probably suit better when the Symphony's GALA setup increases the volume on the motorway.

As for subs. I feel my setup would benefit but to get the best out of it I'd need a H/U with a good EQ on it or a separate EQ. Though these days prices of HUs are starting to look VERY attractive.

Not sure I'm reading the OP right, you still have the original head unit? If so I'd suggest upgrading that first, takes up less space and might be all you need. Never been a fan of OEM head units.

How many channels do you want to drive? A pair of smaller amps with fewer channels, one per front seat, would take up less space than a big 4 channel under one seat. Plenty of second hand bargains to be had as well if you aren't bothered about having the latest model.

Want a laugh when the word AMP was used I thought amp-meter and could not understand who was saying what. LOL

The penny dropped when AMP popped into my head with amplifier. LOL

Text talk confuses old gits like me, any chance to drop the full word first, then text talk afterwards. emoticon-0148-yes.gif THANKS MEMBERS.

I've always called them amps? Don't think it's a new thing.

Yeah, I wanna keep the Symphony because I'm not a fan of after market looks and I've already got the phone kit and changer in now. It's not even a question of wanting to upgrade, but more just getting they setup to work sweetly. Only really want a 2 channel as the rears are fine straight off the hu.
