2000 Fabia 1.4 Flickering lights

Featured Replies

Hi there new to the forums so sorry if this is in the wrong place i have recently bought a Skoda Fabia 1.4 comfort (X Reg) We are having the flickering light problem when the engine is either idle or actualy driving. The lights are fine with the ignition on befor starting the car :) at present there are no power steering problems. Does anyone know how to actualy fix this prob;em i have tried taking out the fuse for the power steering and starting the car but still the flickering persists any help will be much apriciate. :)

Thanks Matt

How old's the battery? There's a very good chance it's just that it needs a new one...

How old's the battery? There's a very good chance it's just that it needs a new one...

Its ok as far as i can tell it had a test done on it at Kwik-Fit last December 2010 all seems to be ok! i can post the result when i get home :)

Just noticed this was in the Tech Guides section, so I've moved it. If you're CERTAIN the battery is OK (and I wouldn't take Kwik $hit's word for it, frankly), then the next thing to check is the PAS angle sensor, and if it isn't that, the PAS pump itself.

Hi had the exact same thing with my 1.4 Elegance was a intermittent short in the PAS Angle sensor the old sensors were made of plastic and cracked with wear and time letting water in. this causes the electric short that can play all kinds of tricks on the electrics. Mainly the lights flickering as it gets worse the dash lights can flicker also and things like the boot can open by itself. The cure is a new angle sensor the new ones are made of metal so dont suffer from the same problem as the early sensors. Also change the earth cable from the battery to the car body as they degrade over time. I have had both replaced on my car and it feels alot better and no more flickering light whilst driving. Whilst stationary even with a new sensor the lights will dim when turning the steering as its a electric pump driven PAS system and it uses alot of juice. hope that helps
