Cleaning Stainless Exhaust

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This might sound like a daft question but what should i use to clean up the stainless exhaust tip on my car???

It's on my IS300 which rather than a chrome exhaust trim has a stainless steel section from the backbox. It's looking a little sorry for itself but as my previous cars have had chrome exhaust tips rather than a stainless one i just wanted to know how to go about cleaning it up and what products to use.

Apologies for what may be a very daft question. ;)

Cheers

Dave.

How about some of that stainless steel cleaner they sell for kitchens?

Autosol Dave...Very good stuff

Yep, as Chris said, Autosol used with fine wire wool if build up is bad

Another vote for Solvol Autosol - used it to good effect on my lads Audi TT exhausts recently.

Autosol has been around for years and years and always gets good comments.- used to clean RS alloys on Mexico's and RS 2000's back in the 70's. Good stuff.

Thanks guys..... Where can i get Autosol from? Is it a Halfruds kinda thing or supermarket or elsewhere???

It's not too bad just a slight build up of rust over the top half. The car was stood for around 3 or 4 months before i bought it and has then been stood for around another month because of the poor weather and then me using my folks car for transporting stuff for the little 'un's room etc.

Bought some autosol and a selection of steel wool from Halfrauds today and have cleaned up the exhaust. Must say it's come up an absolute treat and looks as good as the day it left the factory.

Thanks again guys.

I have to disagree with people's reviews on this product I'm afraid...

I went out and bought some, but its made very little difference

I will upload a pic in a minute, just so someone can confirm I bought the correct stuff.

Lexus don't do them for the old IS anymore you have to go for 3rd party ones on eBay which are usually slightly too long. To be honest once I cleaned mine up it's come up really polished anyway. I'll get a pic to show what I mean.

Is that your old Sport???

Glad Autosol did the job. I've always had good results with it too

Yes loved it running costs too high though

Dave, I think a larger diameter tailpipe would suit that cut out much better.

Perhaps a 3 or 3.5" outward rolled one would look nice

And make the most of the 3ltr sound.
