what numbers should i look at when buyingwinter wheels

Featured Replies

between now and next October i want some used wheels steel or alloys for winter from ebay but must be VW/skoda wheels ( my insurance company Aviva has told me i must only used these wheels).

the back of my spare wheel has loads of different numbers and letters, which one of these should i look at when matching up the new wheels ?

thanks

No, it's from MK5 Golf.

You need 5x100 PCD not 112.

Look out for MK4 Golf, New Beetle, Seat Ibiza, Leon, Octavia Mk1, Last of the Mk3 Golfs and late Corrado's. I've found this lot out by looking myself over the past few weeks. I got three 16" Steels from a Beetle for £40 and a MK4 Golf with M+S 205/55/16 Tyre for another £40. The tyre is not the size I need so will be sold to fund my winter set.

You can use 15" rims to clear your brakes but I went for 16's just in case I happen to fit 312mm discs in the future to the vRS.

thanks for the help

I just pay £40 to have the winter wheels taken off in March

If you go with 15s: 6x15 rim size, 5x100PCD stud spacing, ET43 offset on standard Fabia II steels or ET38 on Octavia I steels. 57mm centre hole.

I have been offered some VW 6 x 15 steel wheels but don't know what vehicle they came off. It says 6 x15 on them and they are 5 stud but can you identify them by the other numbers on them. None seem to refer to PCD or offset etc., it just looks like a part number.

If they are vw they will be ok if the PCD is correct. If you can measure them a 100mm PCD means the distance of the centre of the bolt hole to the centre of the central hole is 50mm (the other size would be 56mm PCD112). PCD is pitch circle diameter which is the diameter of the imaginary circle the bolts sit on. With a 57mm centre bore the distance of the centre of the bolt hole to the edge of the centre hole would be 21.5mm.

Thanks again Fatbloke, I will get my vernier out and check these measurements.
