vRS mpg....

Featured Replies

Just after some advice really, lately I've been trying to drive my vRS sensibly and smoothly to see what sort of mpg it can do, oddly enough driving it sensibly makes no difference to the mpg as I'm still getting around 30mpg and 300 miles to a tank, is this normal lol??

Secondly is a remap likely to improve the mpg?? at the minute I've put the car up for sale but think I might be being a tad hasty lol.

I know its a 1.8T but just trying to improve it so I can still keep it if I can.

What sort of driving do you do? If its mainly town then expect the low 30's. Mine is averaging around 35 on a mixture. On long motorway drives at 70 its 40+

My work drive is about 15 miles each way, which is mainly one long A road all the way there and back, I don't venture into town on these journeys.

My trip to work is about 7 miles each way. I get about 30-34mpg if driven sensibly, about 22-24mpg if I 'make progress'. The wife borrowed the car to go from Scarborough to York yesterday with a boot full of pushchairs & shopping & all sorts of stuff and the trip showed 39.8mpg average.

My remap has made no difference to the MPG overall, no better no worse.

Mine empties his tank on a thought :giggle: I dont see much over 20 these days and get under 30 miles to a tenner

Good or bad petrol doesnt seem to last :smirk:

I dont do nice gentle runs as such often but i supose i did see it say 36 when i drove to taunton behind some trucks at 50mph :wonder: best mpg for ages but as much fun as a trip to dentist

Although if i have money to waste i can bring it down to 14 .... Or 12 i thinks the worst average ive had it show :giggle:

I can get around 34 when being careful, but usually get around 29-30 when driving 'normally'.

When I'm booting it, I can only get 24 average.

I get about 30mpg out of mine and as said about 300 miles to a tank, do alot of short journey town driving, only live 5 miles from work,

When we went to trax car show last year in a 5 car convoy at a steady 70 all way i got over 40mpg out of it and that was with a boot full of mates track rims and tyres,

Its better than my volvo used to do and that lived on motorway, could never get anymore than 32mpg out of it

If your right foot isn't too heavy the 1.8T can be quite thrifty really. I make sure I haven't got any extra weight in mine (ensure boot is empty etc.) and on my 30-mile each way commute average about 46 mpg. This is mostly motorway, but I find that driving smoothly and coming off the gas early, like when you can see the lights have changed to red ahead really helps. Keeping a steady speed when on motorway or dual carriageway helps a lot and it's surprising how often you can take your foot off the accelerator when going downhill and maintain speed whilst burning almost no petrol (set your display onto MPG and you'll see). I think the key is to give yourself enough time in your journey to drive steadily then you can save some petrol to put your foot down when you need to - or want to! emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Mine gets about 24 to 25 around town!! on a run 38 to 40 but I have a lead foot too so that don't help.... :giggle: I'm gunna take the 2 sensors off and clean them and see if it makes a difference!!

Are these figures from played with octys or standard? :smirk:

When i first got it running it in a had up over 40 alot , a revo stage 2 a full milltek and cat later along with other goodies and its a petroholic :giggle:

Are these figures from played with octys or standard? ...

my fuel readout tells me I'm now getting about 48mpg, increasing to 52mpg if I allow the turbo to spool up :o

- think it just doesn't have the heart to tell me the real figure :giggle:
