bonnet catch pics

Featured Replies

I have had major problems getting my bonnet open recently, even skoda cant get it open!

Could someone post a close up pic of the catch so my local garage could have a look at it so they know how to attack it to get it open?

Thanks

I can do one in the morning, if no one else has come to the rescue by then....

In the picture you can see a green arrow. This is where the inner part of the bowden cable is attached. It is fixed. This is why it snapped when you pulled it.

In the picture you can see a red arrow. This is where the sheath of the bowden cable is attached. It is the sheath that moves and pushes the release fork to the left. This is what you need to do and without the right tools it is very difficult.

Whilst you may not think so at the moment  , it is a really clever way to prevent someone hooking the cable and opening the bonnet.

If you look at the pictures mbanes posted you can see how well protected the latch is.

<makes a mental note to keep mine well lubricated> I do not fancy trying to open mine single handed, with or without go-go-gadget arms! :o

Even going in through the grill is not easy - you have to cut out the plate behind the badge as it's the only point high enough for you to get at the latch securing bolts. Assuming you have the tools to remove the two latch bolts, then the latch itself will lift out still attached to the bonnet.

When you grease the latch, check for corrosion on the release fork. I've seen a few cars where one of the tines has broken off due to corrosion.
