Sticky Clutch Problem

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm taking the car to the dealer next week but just wanted your opinions first.

I've got a Octy 4x4 Estate (2001) and last week the clutch pedal got stuck whilst driving. Pushing it down produced no response and I was totally unable to change gear. We pulled over in neutral and when parked I lifted the pedal slightly and it popped back. It has been fine ever since.

It wasn't stuck on the mat as this was the first thing we checked.

It is likely that the car has been sitting on the forecourt for a couple of months.

Just wondered if anyone had experienced the problem and if they had any thoughts on the cause/cure.

Thanks,

RichieB

its a known problem with the octy, especially in cold weather. Several others on the forum have suffered the same problem.

Just remembered the name of the part, its the clutch master cylinder. If the car is under warranty get it replaced.

I've had my clutch master cylinder replaced under warranty with a modified version to cure a problem with the pedal sticking down in cold weather.

Thanks guys!!! :)

Car is under warranty so I shall make sure I steer them towards the replacement of the part. Really appreciate the help with that.

Another Octy owner here with a replacement master cylinder fitted

It took my dealer just over an hour to change mine and it's been fine ever since :)

You anticipated my next question :)

Thanks very much for the help. The wife will be especially pleased that it can be fixed properly rather than being fobbed off.

Not always the master cylinder. Fair enough if it is under warranty let them change it, but if it is not and the Skoda dealer wants to hit you with a big bill for this, take your car to a small independant. I had this problem with 2 Octys, an out of warranty 99 1.6LX and an in warranty vRS. Cylinder was done in vRS under warranty and has worked since, Skoda dealer wanted to charge a lot to replace it in the 1.6LX. Took the car to a small independant who fixed the problem in 2minutes and did not charge me! The fluid was low and needed topped up. Again it worked perfectly and did so up to the point we sold the car a while before christmas.

Fair point - I'll bear it in mind when talking to the service guys on Monday.

The wife took it into the dealer and they found no problem!!! They checked the hydraulics and the fluid.

They sent her away (despite the fact that it happend againon the way to the garage) and she is not a happy bunny!!!! They asked her to bring it in if it gets any worse!!!! Not good advice, surely!!!

Back to the drawing board. Any more thoughts (on either the clutch problem or dealing with the dealer)?

Thanks, RichieB

BTW - Should this be in the maintenance forum?

Richie, I would try a different dealer.

Moved to my Maintenance and duplicate post removed.

I may look at getting another dealer to look at it. It may be a necessaity since the wife is driving down to Devon in it next week!!!! If it goes whilst she is away there will be hell to pay....! She is not one to be trifled with!!!

Just threaten the dealer with your Mrs :D :D
